The EU seems to have a very good politics concerning internet and privacy rights.
EU has been on a roll with good choices lately.

It is (as in politicians having interests in certain laws to serve themselves), but some EU countries are further ahead in digital privacy which means the whole of EU benefits from it.
The US has the disadvantage of being a single country.

Good decision. But the different countries should take those decision themselves, there's no need for the EU.
