Title explains it.
It locks up, and I have to ctrl + F4 out of it. This only started happening after I got my new computer.

Does it happen with other games?
Do you have the most recent drivers?
Did you update DirectX?
(These questions should be FAQ'ed)
Also to add to the above post:
Do you have the latest oblivion patch?

Yes, I do.
Are you running any mods?
Also what sound card do you have?
I had problems with my sound card causing the crashes (IDE one, not the onboard one) and the only solution was to remove the soundcard from my pc.

ATI HDMI Audio, and yes, I've got a few mods.
Oblivion experiences a lot of trouble with conflicting mods, are you sure you have not changed/added any mods after or before the upgrade with out testing to see if they work? Try disabling all the mods and see if you have the problem, then turn them on 1 by 1 until you isolate the problem.
Have you installed the unofficial oblivion patch? Tons of bug fixes.
If none of the above work try disabling your ATI HDMI audio, then try oblivion, it may be the problem.

I've tried the unofficial patch, I've disabled the audio, and I've turned all the mods off, but nothing seems to work.

Just disabling sound in game won't solve that, try using the device manager to disable/uninstall the sound card and try again.

That's what I did.
Best and final hope: Re-install.

I suppose I'll just resort to the 360 version. I can do without mods.
How many saved game files do you have?

None.
Well, one I guess, but I've deleted a shitload that I had before.
Maybe overheating tough. Do you have any other *heavy* games?
And post your temperatures after load.
