It has happened a couple times in a row, and I'm starting to get worried.
Yesterday I turn on the computer, leave it for some minutes to boot up, and return only to find it's stuck on the "loading" bar (i'm running on Windows XP). A reboot only showed me this little fella:

The only way to get it working again was switching the HDD to another SATA port.
It has happened again about a year ago and I had to do the same. Never happened to me again after I bought a surge protection w/ emergency battery.
Until yesterday. Aaaannnd today. Error message, background turns blue (not BSoD blue, more like Win XP Choose User Accout blue), had to reboot, Black SoD, refusal to boot properly again, switch SATA port, disk checks and fixes some stuff, everything's fine again.
Should I be worried?
Backup documents and shit and reformat?
Replace some hardware?
Ignore it since it was only a weird coincidence and won't happen again?
It can be the OS booting files that's encountering problems on the booting, or it can be the HDD, who knows.. I'd go with the OS.
How about the "i won't boot until you change my SATA port" thing?
That does not seem software-related...
Sata port malfunctioning, causing data to be corrupted as it is transferred.

I dunno.
But it's definitely hardware.
So, what do I need to prevent this from happening again?
OR am I already fucked, and need to replace something before my PC dies in a fire?

It's definitiely a hardware problem as he said, because it works if he changes the SATA port

Probably something wrong with either the port or the SATA controller
We know what the problem is. Perfect. Knowing is half the battle, and all that jazz.
So what the flying Cthulhu do I need to do?
Little update: performance's acting somewhat dizzy. File transferts and some games' loading times are a tad slower.
explorer.exe stopped working once. restarted it via task manager, everything is fine (somewhat).
I'll ask it again: what the goddamn fuck on earth should I do at this point?
[editline]god fucking dammit is it really this hard to get a simple "replace your X" answer in less than a day? /somewhat ninja rant[/editline]
I'm already backing up important shit, just in case.
Try resetting the bios.
Might try. But the majority still agrees it's a hardware problem. Do I need to replace the motherboard/HDD/flying unicorn as soon as possible, or I can wait a bit?

Oh, and now Messenger refuses to start, no matter what. Deleting and reinstalling it TWICE didn't to shit. :saddowns:

yeah your hardware is probably fucked.
I would still try to fix it software wise before you replace any hardware due to the fact thet its free.
So reset your bios.
Bios reset. We'll see the results...
