The fact that you can actually go into the bases is a really cool idea. I hope they pull it off right.
This idea has been tried multiple times, but nobody really ever gets it right. Not sure if it's possible.

Graphics looks like a source mod and the interiors look bland and uninteresting like every FPSRTS.

The nukes and artillery and tons of lasers makes me think of a game of spring. I wonder if it'll have terrain deformation.
Has nobody played Battlezone 2? It executed the concept well. The problem was that it was 1998's equivalent of Crysis when it came out

im still holding out for Savage 3 to fill the void in my heart for personal scale RTS hybrids, but this looks p. cool!

Because in 2014 we have the resources that mean you can have half decent graphics at a minimum of effort. Having it look so bad in an FPS game which is a very graphics centered genre (because yes, they do matter) implies either a lack of skill or effort.
Seeing as is just one fucking guy, it's probably lack of skill. Very few people are excellent coders and artists too.
