Yesterday, I connected a double male ended mini HDMI cable from my PS3 to my computer monitor. This set up has worked before and the picture came through but when I tried plugging in my headphones into the monitor, the picture cut out. The monitor says it cannot detect any HDMI signal. I initially thought it was my PS3 and reset the PS3 but it still doesn't work. The PS3 was in storage with the HDMI cable connected to it for a while. Is it possible that the cable is messed up even though it's pretty much just out of the box?
Does anyone have any suggestions about what to do next? I've already tried replugging everything in back in and letting the PS3 rest overnight.
Maybe you should not try to connect a 144hz monitor to a playstation.

I don't see how that would be a problem.
try a different cable / try the hdmi port on your computer

thankfully his steam profile indicates that he didn't buy it just for a console but it should just work
I don't see how it wouldn't work
Belated update:
Turned out to be a problem with the HDMI cord.
