What's this? 95% slower than all of AUS? Yeah! This is what we get, isn't it fast or what? Boy, don't I love waiting for videos to upload or having extreme amount of lag.. Our area (where we live) is fast enough to get at least 4mb/s and a 128kb/s upload speed but he still refuses to go with someone else. I've been trying to convince him bigpond is better and we can get a better deal (we have foxtel and a telstra phone, his work phone is also with telstra) BUT NOT EVEN THAT CHANGES HIS MIND. So at this point I've sort of gave up, is there any other ways I can show him otherwise. P.S: I control the router in the household, Dad and Mum pay the bills, so I can't do shit. Thanks
The only way you might be able to convince him is if you show him how it is cheapter to switch, or that it at least is the same price. But this probably isn't a viable option, is it?

He just wishes not to switch cause he sees no visible problem.

are you on pair gain or a RIM? cause you might be getting as good as you can get (without putting in a line transposition request)
Pay for the bill yourself, or don't complain.
Pay for the bill yourself, or don't complain.
As soon as my job resume is accepted I'll offer to pay half of the bill [editline]22nd May 2011[/editline]
are you on pair gain or a RIM? cause you might be getting as good as you can get (without putting in a line transposition request)
I don't know those details, sorry
You must live in a shitty area, I live in the country and these speeds are the norm.
Oh god here we go again, speedtest competition is coming
Hey guys, stop bragging about your internet speed and help him.
Never EVER go with bigpond. They take it down loads of times on weekends and it's way too expensive for what it is. I'm literally stuck on it and I HATE it. Go with something like Internode or Adam, they're far better for value and speed. Pretty much maximum you can get on Bigpond is 2mbp/s download and 1mbp/s upload.

Our whole street is basically Telstra owned when it comes to electronic communication.
Across the road? steal his wifi, have him aim one of the antenna towards your house with a cantenna and do the same yourself
I've been trying to convince him bigpond is better
bigpond is shit
I would mess with the router/modem to make it look like internet service got fucked up and leave it like that for a week so that they have no choice but to switch, already did that in my house, we went from 512Kb to 3Mb. Unless your dad is stubborn and a pain in the ass and call technicians to fix it or mess with it himself.
I don't know those details, sorry
you should ask your current ISP this question. the basics are, if you're on a pair gain or your phone connection is via a RIM, your speeds are severely limited, but they should not be that bad. log onto your modem / router, and find out what it's current sync rate is? but those speeds are shocking if you're not capped.
ISP quality almost always depends on location. [editline]22nd May 2011[/editline] also forgot to ask, you made sure it isn't your router that's fucking up?
also mmm, tpg. $29.99 a month for unlimited adsl2+.
bigpond is shit
This, also try to go with iiNet, I've heard from friends that they're fantastic

Bigpond is awesome, Go in and give them all your money (I work in a telstra shop)
If the problem is that he thinks the current speeds are fine, then show him a high-def Youtube video sloooooowly buffering. Watching a video struggling to load can frustrate the shit out of anyone. If that doesn't work, forget it. Bonus points if the buffering video is somehow related to your studies
OP's internet is quicker than mine, but i don't really care. I don't download much stuff anyway.

this is mine in the us

It's a 1.5Mb/s plan. It means you can download at a max of 192KB/s. When you got 4MB/s, you would've had data cached. That speed test should've resulted in it showing 1.5Mb/s - meaning you're running at about 1/3 of the sync speed. This could either be because your ISP is shit or they've capped you for some reason. Regardless of whatever it is, AAPT is crap. Move onto a new provider. Internode for ease or TPG for loads and loads of data.

It's shifting its attention to businesses than families.
If it was bought by AAPT, then you're most likely now using their services, even if it runs under a different brand name. Well if it's a 512Kb/s plan, then you're getting the speeds you pay for. According to that speed test, you're out by about 100Kb/s, which is only 13KB/s. You're on a crap plan. ISP isn't to blame. You need to move if you want any decent plan. I don't think ISPs even offer 512Kb/s anymore.
I know that feel bro, the max I can dl at is 750kbs on a good day (which isnt very often) Oh, and we're on AOL ...In England. Uhm. all you can do is research all the different packages out there and find one thats cheap and not a hassle to switch over to, if you make a good enough argument then he can't really say no if he's reasonable. USE CHARTS. And give him reasons as to how it would help you out , like mention it'd make doing your homework easier, or some shit like that.

What I need is to convince my dad we need to switch, I'll change the wifi mode to g only which means the back end of the house gets 1-2 bar connection. I just need good persuasive arguments.
