Why is the Egyptian President on place one? I think that's much more amazing than Notch being so high up.
What? The hell did he even influence? I don't see how making a popular video game is influential to anything.

Wallets.

He gave tons of people income, what do you think these Youtube Minecraft LPers would be doing otherwise? :v:
What? The hell did he even influence? I don't see how making a popular video game is influential to anything.
I think the reason they have him up there as a 'Influential Person' is because like many other indie developers he shows that you don't need a big publisher behind you to succeed.
What? The hell did he even influence? I don't see how making a popular video game is influential to anything.
Have you seen the amount of minecraft clones and the explosion of "retro indie graphics"
Oh, they asked people to vote. Nerds love to represent their interests.

He makes video games, there are way more influential people who do things with real people such as aid and charity which should be considered more "influential".

There were plenty of successful indie games before Minecraft.
EA is the worst company in the world, Notch is one of the most influential in the world, nobody knows what they're doing.
He influenced us all to take vacations every other week.
If I were notch I would just disappear with all my money and make more games under a fake name.
Its a massive success. He is influential.
He has influenced development of Indie Games
He has influenced peoples ability to make large amounts of income from the game itself
He has influenced young childrens creativity
To say, oh but its a game, is utter shit. To those listed above it is/could be much more than that.
Lets not forget this is on a massive scale as well.
Good on him.

I'd hardly call getting extremely lucky influential. There are more indie teams out there setting better examples via hard work and proper interaction with their audience than him.
His game got big, that's it. What happened as a result of its success is nothing to do with him.
Like the article says, the fact that so many people voted for him shows he's influential.
No marblecake also the game this time?

It shows that he's well known amongst internet users who have a very narrow field of interest.
Ask them to give a list of people they consider influential and 80% of them would say "Notch" and "Gabe Newell" and then the list would have stopped there or directors of their favourite movies or such would come up.
They don't care about government people, charity organizations, people that are doing gigantic projects to help people or anything at all really. They hardly have anything to compare Notch to, they only know Notch, and they like him, so they vote Notch.
super lamo imo
Well he did get a lot of kids to play an educational video game. The effect is gonna be felt in the next 10 years but it will be there.
Same way lego influenced a lot of kids 10-15 years ago. Well fuck, every kid had them, surely we were influenced by them.

He's the poster boy of indie developers - from nobody to mainstream success. Indie developers look up to him.
That said, putting him behind the Egyptian president is overstating it.
4chan managed to get Kim Jong Un, Sixth.
I assume it was 4chan, but people might have seriously voted for him.
He influenced the hundreds of minecraft clones?
If Hitler can win Time's most influential person of the year award, I'm sure most people can too.
It's weird that that Chris Hadfield didn't even get a spot in the list. He's brought NASA to the social media, and influenced a ton of people to do research and get interested in space exploration.
Also he has a tumblr where he regularly posts awesome pictures from space. And he's working on a music album. In space.

He may have been a big deal a year or two ago, but currently?
why are ~gamers~ fucking up these polls
just stop you don't know anything about the world around you
What? The hell did he even influence? I don't see how making a popular video game is influential to anything.
He invented vacations, which thus influenced upper management to take vacations every two weeks.
What? The hell did he even influence? I don't see how making a popular video game is influential to anything.
it is to the people who voted on this reader poll.
if you've ever looked at an online poll... ever.. you'd realize that everybody who votes for them has a very skewed view on reality
Well deserved, good job, Notch, whether ya like the attention or not.
