It depends what that number counts. I launched it to give it a try once and went "fuck this I can't figure out what to do and these matches go on forever and people are calling me a bot ahhhhhh"

and damn if it isn't the best game i've ever played
MOBAs are up there but I wouldn't consider them the hardest games to figure out. You can learn by playing and asking people questions. You can be ignorant of a lot of the game when you're starting out.
Meh.
I play both and I like both.

What sort of black magic is this?!
You must love one and hate the other!
I'd play both if I didn't have to pay for WoW time.

It's the mechanics of 100+ heroes, flow of the game, timing, item decisions, skill build decisions, positioning, map awareness and stuff thats gonna take some time to learn
the irony is beautiful
Blizzard has that new moba they're creating based on their universes which looks to have a much lower learning curve, with shorter rounds. You could give that a try when it comes out/leaves beta.
If anyone wants to try it out i would be more than happy to coach
The problem with Dota is the community, it's not very noob friendly, you're forced to play with bots for a looong time unless you have 4 other friends that don't care if you make mistakes and they lose

From what I heard quite a few people lost interest in it pretty quickly after trying it for a bit. They had some fun with it, but the content just dried up much more quickly than in DOTA2 or LOL which have a lot more complexity to sink your teeth into.
I don't know if that actually means they went overboard with the "casualization" (Blizzard's usually pretty good at that), I'm just working with the opinions of the few that actually got a beta invite.
I'd actually be surprised if they managed to properly "casualize" a game with such small teams where an individual's error are much more impactful and apparent, which invites much more of the competitive multiplayer bile than other games. I don't know if you can fiddle with other aspects of the game to fix that and to create a "casual, friendly atmosphere". In Hearthstone it works because chat is strongly limited, in WoW you can soloquest through a lot of content, StarCraft has a whole campaign, but idk about HotS.

No MOBA community is noob friendly.
Can't really compare a free-to-play game with a subscription based game. Also expansions.
WoW is currently going through dead months until the next expansion gets released in half a year. Then its subscriber base should rise up to 10 million or so.
Many players have also alt accounts, especially if it's a free game.

they probably weren't calling you a bot, they were probably telling you to go bot (bottom lane)
I would recommend playing the tutorial and playing a few CPU matches before going into the real game
if you actually want to, of course.

This. What is impressive about WoW is how many people pay.
Dota 1 had already surpassed WoW playerbase.

A lot of people these days still plays Dota 1 tho due to the fact that upgrading your PC in SEA is quite expensive.
I never found myself wanting to get in to MOBAs, the communities (especially LoL) seem toxic.

Of course it is when your wages are 1$/hr or less while hardware costs the same as anywhere else. Over here minimum wages are 2euro/hour while hardware prices same as rest of Europe.
