It looks like a survival unity game where someone just placed a bunch of stock/purchased assets around.
No environment cohesion at all.
I'm not really convinced yet.
Is this still supposed to be Guilin or a new place?
[img_thumb]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/92/1_li_jiang_guilin_yangshuo_2011.jpg[/img_thumb]
Shenmue 2 did a great job depicting Guilin, on a Dreamcast, with its radical mountains and pathways through them, the riverside and the forest.
When you entered that final Guilin Part the whole atmosphere just was so radical different from Hong Kong before.

I actually really look forward to see a modern depiction. And thus far the 2 screenshots are, okay I guess? But nothing grabs me, though maybe this isnt event supposed to be Guilin, who knows.
Well lets see when we get the first moving material, or at least some more pictures. Because I want to see a bigger area for once, not just a little snippet.
I really want this whole project to work out.
Didn't the Yakuza series end up doing exactly what Shenmue was doing but without being cancelled after two games
Didn't the Yakuza series end up doing exactly what Shenmue was doing but without being cancelled after two games
Well Yakuza may be the closest thing there is to Shenmue, one could say a spiritual successor. Though the games are still quite different in a lot of areas, just as much as they are very similar in many parts.
Also while Yakuza had the priviledge to be released on the PS2 one of the best selling consoles ever, Shenmue released on a doomed console, so it's not like they chose one over the other.
Looks like ass
Still got several years of development to go, so give them time. They're probably still on their first pass. The colours are all great though even if the assets aren't so they've done that at least.
what is this game even about why is there a big fan base and will they make a remake/hd on of ythe firddty two
Amazing game. Will be a masterpiece. These are just development pics. It will look different in the final game.
Jesus christ what are you doing

The ol' famous saying for any big kickstarter game and gives us nothing but promises and concept art.
I'm disappointed to see that Shenmue 3 will join Mighty Number 9 it seems. Oh well, better luck next time.
once again, i'm frightened because someone's bump made it seem like PCGamesN had returned

are you fucking kidding me
these screenshots are out literally years earlier in timespan than mighty no. 9's abominations, its far too early to pass any kind of judgement on an AAA game
at this point they're showing these less as a graphical benchmark but more of as "hey, we're working on the game, here's what we've got so far"
People concerned about those pics from JANUARY should know it was just a prototype where they still used some assets from previous games and stuff. It was mentioned in the latest dev video, they didn't even start seriously working on the game when those shots were taken. I highly doubt this will be finished in 2017.

I'm still so shocked this game has gotten over 7 million dollars in funds for a game that really, really is the nichest of niche games.
I'm not even sure what to expect from this game anymore. It's just so bizarre, but oh well. Let's hope I'm wrong.
These... don't look any different from the shots they showed way earlier. They still just look like models thrown into a test engine

Seriously, do you know who is making this game? He is called Yu Suzuki, hasn't made a game for 15 years and is a legend at storytelling and game design. This is Shenmue we are talking about here, games which revolutionized open world and story in a game.
This game won't fail like Mighty No. 9. It will be a masterpiece like Shenmue 1 and 2.

Also don't forget how much the guy actually fought to SOMEHOW finish this project of his.
I know many people found the whole kickstarter thing on a Sony Press Conference quite strange.
But I believe that was the only way Shenmue 3 could have happened. 14 years Yu Suzuki tried to find ANYONE to get this project funded.
Well and Kickstarter alone would never be able to pay for a project like this.
Even though people may find it shitty that they used the Kickstarter pretty much only to show investors that there is interest in a project like Shenmue 3, I believe that was the only way to convince the higher ups, having a whole stage cheering.
And I completely understand every investor who said no to this project. It's a very niche game series that lied dormant for fourteen years that started on a pretty much dead console. You must be a maniac to simply greenlight this without any proof of demand.
I really do trust in Yu Suzuki, this was his magnum opus, his lovechild. He was Segas Miyamoto.
Well but in the end, when the Mighty No 9 Kickstarter launched, it looked like a passion project aswell...
I hope Shenmue 3 works out. I don't need a graphical master piece. I just want Yu Suzuki to be able to finish his story.
Shenmue never was a masterpiece. But it always was, and still is one the most unique experiences in gaming I had, there is nothing like it out there. It deserves to be finished.

Go play Shenmue 1 and 2, then see how 3 is going to be good.
I'm telling you right now this is gonna be 9/10 GOTY or at least "Best Story"
And go listen to Shenmue music. Some of the most beautiful tracks ever in existence, Majestic.

Look I got super excited for games such as Ace Combat Assault Horizon and Skyward sword because they were gonna be best in the series!
Next thing I hear is that they're not really that good. Don't overhype yourself.

I mean it leaves a tad to be desired when the lighting is dark, but this isn't displeasing to the eye.

With over a year of dev time estimated left, I imagine most of the quirks (i.e. the posture and shadows) will be rectified by then.
