• Using mouse causes high CPU usage in explorer.exe (Windows 7)

Recently, I've noticed that while i'm playing games my game seems to lag whenever I move my mouse. I didn't think much of it until I tried playing a game with my tablet. When I play games with my tablet my FPS is constant but as soon as I move the mouse my fps drops by around 40. I opened task manager to see what was slowing down my PC when I move my mouse, and noticed that when I move my mouse my explorer process jumps from 1-2% to 16-20% CPU usage. The mouse i'm using is a Microsoft Habu and I've reinstalled drivers and had the same effect. What could be causing this? My PC specs are: AMD 4600+ X2 (A bit lacking I know, but 20% CPU usage for a mouse?) 4GB RAM 8800GTS
Sounds like a faulty or poorly coded background program that's responding to mouse movements.

Buy a new mouse dude. A cheap laser would do.
I'd recommend getting (or borrowing) a cheap mouse and see if it happens with that as well. That way we'll know whether it's a badly coded program or not, like Robber suggested.
Do you also get fps drops when not using your tablet?
I don't get any FPS drops using my tablet, or when I don't touch anything. But as soon as I touch my mouse I drop 40fps. Gonna try a cheap mouse see if I have the same problem.
Try uninstalling the mouse drivers (if you have any) and check if it makes any difference.
Ok, just tried with a cheap mouse. I do not have the same issue on a cheap mouse. Gonna uninstall mouse drivers and see if I have the same issue. [editline]05:56PM[/editline] Uninstalling mouse drivers yielded no differences.
Does the game still lag if you close explorer.exe?
Wow, I thought everyone had this problem. Same thing happens to me.
Does the game still lag if you close explorer.exe?
Strangley no. Closing explorer.exe when I play a game keeps the fps constant and smooth. This wasn't the case a few weeks back.
even 40fps is acceptable, gurantee it's the CPU or Ram struggling to run a program or keep it responding, scan for viruses and spyware.
