• Recommended Anti-Virus software?

I'm getting a new computer within the next 2 weeks, and I'm just wondering which anti-virus programs you would recommend. I currently have Norton on my computer, but I often have OS Page Pool Memory errors and I am led to believe Norton is the cause of this. I'm willing to pay some money if you recommend one that requires a subscription. Thanks.
I use AVG Free. Haven't had any issues with it so far, sometimes it's a little too paranoid but you can easily disable certain features if it e.g. quarantines an important file.
Avast! and Comodo are pretty good. Comodo can be super-paranoid, but eh. [editline]8th March 2011[/editline] I'm sure there was a sticky or a megathread or something on this a while back...
I've heard of all of the above, which likely means they are pretty good. Do they hog less resources than Norton seems to? I'd be interested in giving the megathread a read if you find it? Thanks.
I've used Avast! or MSE in the past and never had any problems. I'm using NOD32 right now though, and if you're willing to pay it's a very nice AV. Very light on resource usage.
None
Used AVG free until a few months ago. It's annoying shitty pesterware now, it used to be great. Switched to Avast and it's much better, uses less resources also. I wouldn't recommend anything other than Avast right now.

Try NOD32 (or ESET Smart Security) if you're willing to play, Malwarebytes has a great real-time scanner for $25 (lifetime subscription), if you're looking for free AVs then Comodo, Avast or MSE.
Microsoft Security Essentials
Sounds like Avast is the most recommended. I'll take a look at the above mentioned NOD32 too. I'm glad Avast is recommended as I was looking into it before this thread.
MSE or Avast
None
You want some identity theft and involuntary membership of a botnet with that option? because that's what you're gonna get.
What happened to the antivirus megathread? We don't need one of this exact thread every week.
You want some identity theft and involuntary membership of a botnet with that option? because that's what you're gonna get.
I think we should just ignore him. I'm aware he's just being "lolfunneh".

I'd say Microsoft Security Essentials, although it may trigger some "false positives" that are not really false according to Microsoft. It's because some software does stuff to Windows that Mr. Gates doesn't like.

I am using Avira alongside Spybot SAD and MalwareBytes and it's pretty impenetrable. [editline]8th March 2011[/editline]
This one: http://www.facepunch.com/search.php
No that one lets in trojans all the time.
NOD32 does look quite good, may consider it. My girlfriend got a virus yesterday while using McAfee, so I'll defintely be avoiding that one. I managed to system restore it just now, I'm actually using it now! :v:

It also runs on my mother's old P4 machine without slowing anything down or becoming intrusive.

Norton, it's the only one you can trust as you can never tell when a download on a free site will be infected with viruses.
NOD32, by far. Does not make my pc lagg or anything.
Avast!
I used to use AVG free, but I didn't like how long the updates took to install, and the stupid little ad that popped out at the bottom. I switched to MSE. I like the idea of having anti-virus made by the people who made the OS it's on, and I got some good recommendations. It sort of comes down to knowing what you're doing though. I had AVG on my and my parent's computers for awhile. I never have any problems, but it seemed like every time I'd go home, something would be fucked up with theirs.
Avast and Common Sense 2011
Avast if you know how to use common sense comodo if you don't
For Windows 7 I use Avast, Spybot Search & Destroy, MalwareBytes, and I also conduct regulatory scans with Dr.Web CureIT. For my Knoppix, I use Avira Antivir 'cause I'm used to command lines, but BitDefender is equally as good for Linux users.
