• Building Gaming PC for Christmas, need some advice - ~$500 Budget

Since it's almost a new year, I've been wanting to replace my old, crappy HP with a fancy new gaming PC, but my budget is pretty tight at the moment. With my (extremely) limited understanding on PC building, I looked for some good builds and saw something that fits well in my budget and would be up my alley (I think): http://pcpartpicker.com/guide/gcTwrH/entry-level-gaming-build So what do you think? I'll mostly be playing some things I have on backlog, like Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, Sniper Elite V2/V3, Far Cry 3 and Blood Dragon, plus some games I play regularly, like Warframe, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, Borderlands: The Pre-sequel, etc.
That looks like a pretty decent build besides the motherboard (I don't like ASRock.) The only other issue you may have is the R9 280X is a really long card and may not fit properly in that case.
The card is 270mm long, if you remove the additional drive cages, the case supports up to 330mm long cards. (230mm long cards while the cages are still in place) Or you could get a more spacious case, such as: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/rosewill-case-blackbone [editline]2nd December 2014[/editline] Also, unless you're interested in overclocking (which isn't even possible in your case), there's nothing wrong with ASRock
Asrock actually has the best VRMs in most of their boards.
