24" at 1920x1080 is terrible, 21.5" is a far better dot pitch.
also, 1080p monitors are far cheaper nowadays

i don't like samsung's color reproduction, i often see A LOT of color banding
Yeah it is. Don't go for 24" though, it won't look anywhere near as sharp as one of 21.5" will.
.
23" at 2048x1152 is all you need.

the only thing that I don't like about my Samsung is that some of the settings on my monitor are locked, like contrast, and I can't really see my posts highlighted as yellow when on top of the white background. Do you know of a way to force it through software?
the reason i said it had to be 1920x1080 is because this way i can watch movies in 1080p perfectly, and at the same time have a kickass resolution for games. going above this will not only give me black bars, but lower my fps slightly
what's your GPU, and buying a monitor just so that you don't get black bars is dumb. Just go into something like Adobe Premier and change the pixel aspect ratio to 1.333 or something.
ASUS or go home.
hmm ok, but what's wrong with glossy screens?
If you don't mind looking at your own face all the time, then nothing.

Most movies are usually 2.21:1, so you get black bars anyway
I'm buying this hopefully when 5xxx series comes out, so lets say a 5870
you're worried about losing framerate at 2048x1152 with a 5870?
...
.
It's really not that much of a higher resolution than 1920x1080.
I play at 1600 x 1200 , that's a weird res...
:banjo:

I hate how we have 1080P widescreen, 16:9, then the idiots go and edit the movie for some other stupid ratio leaving you with hundreds of thousands of black pixels, what a waste.
Every bluray movie I own still leaves me with black bars and I have a 42" LG HDTV...
(Yes I am aware some of these strange aspect ratios are due to the film used in the cameras - And No I don't have it set up wrong - And no I won't set it to stretch.)

That's because that's the fucking native aspect ratio you twit.

That's because you are using DVI/other digital connection. Only VGA and other analog standards give the monitor choice what the interpretation will be like, because, using DVI, the picture will always looks like it's supposed to (according to the computer video output), so having ability to change it is nonsense. Try to change the settings in you control panels, or video card control.

Harsh, but really, that *is* the reason. There's nothing else to understand about it, and it's not stupid at all.
16:10 rules

No need to be an asshole you Twit.
Then TV's (Or indeed, the HDTV spec) should be wider.
let's see, 4 random films off my shelf: 2.35:1, 2.40:1, 2.35:1, 2.35:1
So 3 of the 4 I picked are in 2:35:1... So why in gods name is the HDTV spec 16:9. - It's a waste of pixels that us, the consumer (Almost certainly intending to watch films) , Paid for.
All I am saying is, If the general thing people buy TVs for is to watch films, And most films are in wider ratios, Why don't they make more tvs in said ratio. (Yes I know such TVs are available)
We are talking about computer monitors here.
