So there's a huge error going on with opera on youtube now. Youtube is creating a cookie called "VISITOR_1" on opera browsers and after it is created you only get an error when you try to load a video. This has been tried and tested (I currently have this bug, and it only happens on my Opera browser) and there's a long page of posts on the opera forum talking about how to try and get around it. Anyone have information on the matter? I'm currently going through various pages on the internet trying to fix what google did.
Wow I just found out... rated you Informative
Any official word on the Opera blog?

BTW, I'm still using YouTube just fine... running Opera 10.10 on Linux, maybe this is related to the 10.50 version??
No, but some of the threads have a lot of talk about it. Here's one of the bigger ones http://www.google.ca/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=an+error+occurred+please+try+again+Opera&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

Alright, here's something even weirder: reinstalling flash then uninstalling quicktime is apparently fixing this. It worked for me.
I'm using the 10.51 beta and it's working fine

Yeah, most people said they fixed it in the new beta, I'm just running 10.10 though
Opera 10.50 here, haven't run into this.
I do have a youtube cookie called VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE, no VISITOR_1 though.

That would be it, I just didn't type the whole thing out. Seems everyone with 10.5 or without quicktime runs fine.

Yeah, I noticed that using any video showing website has problems with Opera 10.10. When I switched over I noticed that the problems stopped. But couldn't you solve the problem by not allowing cookies from youtube?
On Opera 10.5 Youtube doesn't work with the new UI for me.
I'm gonna try installing 10.51, but last time I tried, I couldn't log into FP with it :/

Didn't help.
It tells me to go upgrade.
Google is killing the competing browsers against Chrome, one by one.
Or atleast on YouTube

I'd say it's more of an Opera mistake than Google.

How do you come to that conclusion?

Quicktime sucks?
How do you come to that conclusion?
Do you seriously think a company with the reputation of Google would even think about risking that hard earned rep by deliberately disabling users of another browser?
Come on, use your brain.
How do you come to that conclusion?
Pretty simple - Why should a freaking cookie cause a browser not to display videos? Why aren't all other browsers affected? Because it's something to do with Opera and/or quicktime.

The same thing is up with me... The thing is I can watch embedded videos, and all my other browsers display the old UI, but with 10.50 the new UI just tells me to go upgrade...
What the fuck...?

Mind sharing some proof?

I'm sure you're capable of reading the thread too.

No, all other browsers aren't affected because Google fucked up something.
I'm sure they didn't do it on purpose, or at least I hope so, but as far as I see it, there is no way it can be Operas fault when it worked just fine on the old UI, and then fucks up in the new one.
It even works in god damn embedded videos.
No, all other browsers aren't affected because Google fucked up something.
It's not Google's fault that Opera can't parse a damn cookie if that's really the issue.
Cookies are browser and platform independent, and while Google may have triggered the bug by changing what cookies they write and what's written in them, it is Opera's fault that their browser can't handle the new changes, unless Google is somehow sending malformed cookies over the wire.

So what if Google does send malformed cookies over the wire? We can't know, can we.
Right, just like we can't know if the issue is caused by WWII's atomic bomb corrupting Opera's code repository 50 years after its detonation and accidentally changing the code that parses cookies, but both that scenario and Google sending malformed cookies (if that's even possible) are both very, very unlikely.
Logic says that Opera is fucking things up somewhere in their code. Especially if a browser update can fix the issue, and that no other browser is affected.

Cookies aren't sent "Over the wire"; they're created by the browser itself based on instructions from javascript. Which would make it Opera's fault anyway.
I thought Opera had a huge backdoor?
I was at my friends house and he said he couldn't get Youtube. I'm a firefox fan so I told him it's because Opera blows and Firefox is awesome (I don't really know anything about Opera or ever use it, but I just wanted to see if Youtube would work with Firefox on his computer). Now I know why. I'll probably tell him he can go back to using Opera when they fix this.

It's fairly obvious to me it's something wrong with Opera. Does clearing your cookies fix the problem? I'd guess not.

It's already fixed, 10.50 doesn't have this problem.

Though, if browsers suddenly stops working, the common person will think "Fuck this internet explorer, it doesn't fucking work, downloading this "google chrome" thingy hopefully it'll work better"
My Safari always showed "Go upgrade!" for a few days too
Can't play any videos in youtube.
But i can still play embedded videos from youtube.
