Random lag spikes when searching/joining/playing online games.

This hasn't happened for a while now, but it's been doing it today. When I join a game in MW2, it plays alright for a few seconds then my internet decides to bitch out and I get 1 bar of signal on the scoreboard.
And I was searching for servers on CoD4, I think this picture should help you out. It starts out alright, then my ping goes really high. So it seems to be when i'm connecting to something else. (and everything is fine and dandy when just browsing the internet).

Are you living in Europe ?
The UK.
Wireless Connection?
I had a thing where if anyone would try to connect while I was connected it would either slow down drastically or just completely dc till they got connected fully.
Or if I tried to do too many bandwidth demanding things the router would just give up and cut me off.
Yes I'm on wireless. A pretty old card too. At some point I'm going to try to get it wired up, do you think that is the problem?
Most of the servers on which you have <100 ping are in Europe.
Most of the servers on which you have >150 ping are in US
tadaaaaaa
But the wireless card might have a problem too.

I know that things are going to be bad in different countries, but it's not because of that. My xbox is wired and everything is ok there, so i guess i'll just have to make some cat5 cable and wire my pc up too.
Sounds like either a router or wireless problem. My bets would be on the router. It probably can't handle the sudden influx of server information and craps out - like how some people's routers crash when they open server browsers.
I got a new router a few weeks ago, it's was doing the same thing with the old one.
