I received an old Dell 2400 from a friend, and I wondered if I could use it for something. Its nothing remarkable, but I might find a use for it. But I can't get it to recognize a 80 GB Hitachi Deskstar hard drive. The OEM one that comes with it is 40 GB, but that's pretty small. But that one boots and runs just fine.
Everytime I boot the computer, it makes two quick beeps, and then displays "Primary disk 0 not found". I go to the BIOS, and it recognizes something is there, but can't see the model # or anything.
At first I thought I might have killed the drive, but I put it in my old Compaq Presario, and it works just fine with no errors, and even boots. I thought maybe this computer doesn't recognize hard drives over a certain size, but why would an even older computer work just fine with it, when a newer one won't even boot?
I've already updated the BIOS, so if anyone on Facepunch could give me a straight answer as to why I'm having this problem, that would be great.

You know what? It decided to work if its a SLAVE drive to the OEM drive. Oh well. Probably means I had the jumpers set wrong.
Crisis averted.
