Hmm, hope this is true. I live in the country and we are stuck with 20mb broadband and tbf it will be fucking ages before the UK pulls its ass out the bag.
I live in a village in the country right next to a town that has fibre as well. It's a joke.
So i'll be going up to 152mb from 125mb, that is a-okay.
Can't work out percentages for shit so if I pay £60 already it probably wont be that much of a hike.

'Stuck' with 20mb ? I was on 3/0.6 for 6 years before I got 73/20
You can always barter with Virgin through, there has been many a time before the super-fast 125mb days where our service was shit, and they'd give you a speed and lower your price to try to keep you on board, so use that if any of you villagers are paying too much for too little.

A few years go my mum managed to get our speed upgraded from 2mb to 10mb and also we got free Setanta Sports just because she threatened to go to Sky

20mb rural is good
20mb rural is good
I guess it is, I know people that have shitter speeds, just wish my upload was higher. I have 2mb down 800k up.
I'm lucky to get as much as 10Mb/s at any point despite paying for 120Mb/s, I doubt I'll see much of a change.
20mb rural is good
20mb would be great where I am right now, hardly pushes 5mb.
If they're gonna put my bill up then they'd better hurry the fuck up with my upload speed increase, they doubled my download and left my upload as it was even though they said they're gonna double that too... a year ago.
I hardly get 3mbps with Virgin media :v:

I live in a fairly big town with fibre and I still can't get fibre.

Have you requested it from them?
You can have your speeds reversed, having massive upload and tiny download if you run servers and the such.

It's supposed to be automatic, to keep the 0.1 upload to download ratio. So it went from 30Mb down 3Mb up to 60Mb down 3Mb up. Should have 6Mb up.

Taking their sweet ass time.

lol i live in the center of brighton and i get 5mbps
Fuck Virgin, I ended up switching to my mobile phone company for my internet, because that way I get exactly the same speed internet, plus my mobile with unlimited minutes and text for the same price that just my internet bill with virgin was alone.

That is retarded.. It seems UK broadband is just a mess in the sense that random areas have high speeds and places you wouldn't expect too have low speeds, do. Theres no excuse for that in a town.

Its still great that they are getting on with it, it has really rolled out fast over the last few years.
Though I live literally in the centre of Birmingham (8 mins walk from New Street), and I can't get fiber. I looked it up on OpenReach and I'm connected to the single exchange out of like 5 in the city which doesn't have fiber yet.
Before this I lived in a damp flat in Aston and I was getting 120mb with Virgin (15MMB/s on Steam is heavenly), and before that my flat in Newcastle was on BT, we started on 40mb fiber when it came out then they upgraded us to 80 for free, and now I hear they are going up to 120 for free.
Virgin are staying ahead with the fastest speeds, but don't forget they have their peak time 'fair use' policies where they half your speed (I think it was half) if you download more than like 5gb in peak times. I guess half speed on 150mb fibre is still almost 10MB/s download speeds, but its the principle of the thing. I never had any issues with BT and downloaded immense amounts.

Yea, this is why we switched off Virgin.. I know a friend who's on fibre with them and he used to download loads of stuff off the seven seas and he was capped to like 800k download during peak and he could hardly play any game online.
The same happened with us as well.. but we were on 20mb and would download outside of peak but come peak time we got severely capped to 800k and we couldn't game at all as our MS was insane.
It doesn't make sense why they capped us during peak when we were downloading outside of peak time though, they are arseholes..
I was thinking of switching to BT Infinity. Cause Virgin has the shittiest WiFi signal and living with my family they are always complaining. I literally lose 1-2 bars of signal just walking out of my room into the corridor.
Plus they cap the upload speed to 3mb when it should be 6mb on a 60mb connection for some reason. While with BT Infinity I could get 76 download, 19 Upload and only pay a few pounds more. Does anyone know if BT's WiFI signal is good?

I'm on BT right now and was on BT in my old flat and their homehub has always been pretty solid for me, I'm currently at the very opposite end of the flat from where the router is and I still have full signal on my laptop, have had no problems with it.

the fact that TalkTalk is still in business says a lot about the state of UK broadband

The only time I had cap issues with Virgin was back when the 10Mb package was still around, download like 2gb too fast and bam, 300Kb/s speeds (albeit the cap only seems to last for a few hours)
On 60 now (this was when the 30/60/100 speeds were being rolled out) and I've only been capped once, when I was download mass amounts of games on Steam.
