Lightweight Music Player with something like genius?
51 replies, posted
I've recently removed iTunes because I couldn't take it any longer and I've been trying to find a decent music player that's not a memory hogger, has some form of Genius like iTunes, and has skins. I've tried Foobar, and wasn't my cup of tea.
Try Songbird
Foobar
Simple UI and Low memory use.

He said it wasn't his cup o' tea. I agree with weeman007 about songbird.
Wow, i skipped over that lol.
Songbird then.
Foobar. Try it again. Keep trying until you like it.

I want to so badly, but I just can't get it to look like the way I want it. Can someone help me get Foobar to look really good, like Songbird? Also can I get a view of my whole library, not albums.

This, It's great..
Although, Memory usage is quite a bit because it uses firefox as a backend.

Who the fuck cares about looks, unless you're djing the only time you should look at a audioplayer is when you change songs.

That's no reason to have it look awful.
@ OP: what's wrong with itunes?
And I spose you could try winamp...
iTunes runs slow as shit, likes to use a ton of memory, and I just hate the interface myself, no idea what else the OP might hate about it :fuckyou:
I might try Songbird, I've used Foobar in the past, but found the interface a bit bland, and had trouble with equalizers. Winamp was nice to use, but a pain for some reason, as it stopped working every so often, and WMP is just nasty at times, even if ti does integrate with the Superbar well.

So what do you use?
WMP is the worst of them all.
Goddamn, it creates a second process which takes up 200mb of ram or something goddamn.
If you terminate it, then you can't play music any longer.
Goddamn.
Why not just use last.fm, or a plugin for last.fm in a player?

thx
Old versions of winamp works, and the newest one isn't that bad..
How do you make Foobar make Genius-like playlists. If I can find out how, I'll just stick with it.

There's hundreds of themes about, they require quite a bit of work to get working properly though. I can't remember what mine is called, I'm sure someone can identify it.

I'll name it bloated.
I tried all of them but eventually set with the Zune software. Looks pretty and has some nice features. Uses quite a bit or RAM but is way faster then iTunes is.

Deviantart has a lot of awesome themes dude. Here's what mine's looks like, from a theme on da:

Plus, there's bound to be a plugin that will enable a genuis type playlist thing, being as how foobar is 100% customizable.
I use the Zune software takes up 60mb odd of ram though
There's always Winamp, which supports a shitload of plugins if it isn't already loaded enough with features. And if you want, it comes with SHOUTcast, so it would be neat to help you discover new music.
I have foobar, the theme I use is Ibiza. FOobar is a pain in teh ass to get setup, but it is so nice onces its done. ASIO is awesome if you have a card that supports it. It bypasses all the windows shit and goes straight to hardware.

Can it make dynamic playlists? Please can someone find a foobar plugin to do that.

Link?
Yeah, just do a search based on it and make that a play list.
Long worded way...
What you do is you make a query based on what you want under search, after that you click the "..." and select "Create Autoplaylist". That makes a dynamic playlist.
You do need to know what thing you are search though, it uses basic logic operators for searches so its <field><operator><value>. Like artist IS Muse(Muse), or play_counter LESS 5(Less then 5 plays), date IS 2000(song is from 2000). Foobar is really flexible, its a strength and a weakness.
So will you stick with Foobar2000 now?

I dunno, I've had weird bugs involving the samplerate with ASIO. If I set my X-Fi soundcard to 'audio creation mode' it likes to play everything real slow, for example.
But yeah, ASIO is sexy. That and setting foobar to 32-bit playback.
If you don't have ASIO, a good alternative is Kernel Streaming which bypasses all the Windows DirectMedia etc. "let's resample your music to 16bit 44100Khz" bullshit.
