Blue Screen of Death on booting from external drive

I am trying to boot my laptop from an external hard drive, I installed Windows XP on the drive, and it starts up to the splash screen, but right after the splash screen, I get the blue screen of death. Any suggestions of what this may be? Thanks in advance,

Did you install XP on that External drive from that laptop or another computer?
