Hello Fruitpunch, I am not a dumbass however I am still trying to learn why some applications behave the way they do and fix the issues I encounter so if you are able to give me fixes for some of these it would be greatly appreciated
Note: I have attempted to fix all of these problems myself and have done nothing but cause more harm than good, so being a dick and telling me to google something isn't being helpful. :zoid:
I am using this OS
And this is my rc.lua

Issue #1 Wallpaper...
I would like to use Nitrogen to set my wallpaper (I am also using nitroslim)
However each time I restart my computer my wallpaper gets reset to
~/.config/awesome/themes/niceandclean/background.jpg
How do I ensure that the wallpaper I choose; sticks?
Issue #1.1
I'm not this picky, however is it possible to get the context menu option back that was in firefox "Set as desktop wallpaper" ?
Issue #2 Audio
I am having various audio issues such as only having one application able to use sound at a time, I know that there are instructions to fix this on the Arch Wiki, however I am having a very hard time understanding how ALSA works, Flash doesn't like to cooperate with switching of audio devices and ALSA also insists that my webcam's mic should be the default audio device.
The only way for me to listen to music or really do anything sound related is to manually select the audio device from VLC
Issue #2.1 Volume media keys on my keyboard change the volume for the wrong device.
Issue #3 Steam doesn't play nice when Small
[t]http://i.imgur.com/wCl80om.png[/t]
The screenshot doesn't show this but imagine the chatbox spazzing out and shaking
Is there a way to make sure that Steam doesn't open too small or force it to open in 'floating' mode so it doesn't glitch out when tiled?
Issue #4 I don't have desktop icons
I think there is a way to use freedesktop + awesome to get icons, however using different FM's for different things is odd, I currently am using pcmanfm this may conflict with Issue #1 in a few ways, however I am not sure what steps I should take to get this to work and I'm afraid I'm going to break something if I try to get this to work myself.
Issue #5 Cut+Paste urxvt
I know that shift+insert does the pasting, etc how do you change the hotkeys to something else?

Issue #6 Firefox doesn't tile [SOLVED]
Each time I open firefox, it takes up the whole screen regardless of other apps open and won't tile; So term+ff on the same screen is impossible and I have to move things to other tabs or minimize firefox.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/M61JxAV.png[/t]
in this screenshot the two urxvt terms are open, however firefox is ontop of them

Issue #7 I miss ALT+Tab
(Self explanitory) however Id prefer it to switch to the next tag rather than switch the open application
Issue #8 I uninstalled SpaceFM and now my icons are gone
[t]http://i.imgur.com/05KKRaa.jpg[/t]
How do I get icons back without doing something stupid like re-installing gnome?
Issue #9 Unwanted mouse offset when enabling titlebars
The position of my mouse cursor for windows is off by however tall the titlebar is when they are enabled in my rc.lua
Issue #10 Useless gaps in Awesome 3.5+
Id like a tiny bit of space between the tiled applications that are opened, however adding more or less of a border is causing issues, how do I correctly achieve this?
Issue #11 Libreoffice is in African LOL [SOLVED]
How do I uninstall this language pack and get the (correct) english one to be used?

#yaourt -R <something> ? I can't get it to work right...
Issue #12 Screensaver never starts
I've installed xscreensaver and set the amount of time before it should begin, however it never happens. I think I need to daemonize it?
Issue #13 Random Requests
Numerical value for unread emails in gmail to show up in conky
Current tempature widget to show up in Awesome Toolbar and/or conky
Automatic Tag naming (If I have steam open in a tag then have the tag switch its name to "games", if I have firefox open then have it show "internet" if I have irssi have it show "chat" etc)
I have a Logitech MX518 and it a few buttons on it, how do I map those to do something?
HDD space indicators in either the awesome toolbar, or in conky..

90% of these problems would be fixed by using a normal DE like Gnome, but I'll give you the information I know about the problems you're having. If its fixable by just using an actual DE I'll just say something about Gnome.
Issue #1 Wallpaper...
Wallpaper is integrated into Gnome's session, there's no way to easily break it.
Issue #1.1 Context menu
File managers, firefox, chrome, and most other file-browser-like programs detect Gnome and have working context menus like "Set as wallpaper"
Issue #3 Steam doesn't play nice when Small
Steam isn't designed with linux specifications in mind, there's no way to fix this.
Issue #4 I don't have desktop icons
Even gnome doesn't have the desktop enabled by default, but you can easily turn it on with the gnome tweak tool.
Issue #5 Cut+Paste urxvt
I don't know of a terminal emulator that has easy cut and paste binds, just use the volatile select buffer instead by simply highlighting text you want to copy, then middle click anywhere to paste it (besides Steam).
Issue #6 Firefox doesn't tile
Gnome doesn't have to worry about applications supporting tiling :).
Issue #7 I miss ALT+Tab
Gnome has an alt-tab with a plethora of settings/plugins revolving around its functionality, including things like grouping, window previews, workspace contexts, etc.
Issue #8 I uninstalled SpaceFM and now my icons are gone
Not sure what caused this, did you use your package manager to install and remove it?
Issue #9 Unwanted mouse offset when enabling titlebars
Probably another bug with Awesome or the specific application in Awesome, again fixable by using an actual DE like Gnome.
Issue #10 Useless gaps in Awesome 3.5+
Use Gnome :)
Issue #11 Libreoffice is in African LOL
yaourt -R libreoffice-af
Issue #12 Screensaver never starts
Gnome's screensaver requires GDM, but works out of the box. Has options for idle time, and passwording.
Other than that I doubt people who still actually use Awesome here would be willing to read through and fix all your bugs and errors in your configuration.
I highly recommend using an actual DE with flushed out support, integration, and features.
I appreciate your advice concerning using gnome, I also do know the difference between my WM and OS
A bit of sloppy wording on my part. :V
Thank you for fixing Issue #11
[t]http://i.imgur.com/uoI68MF.png[/t]
Oddly enough Issue #6 Fixed itself (as seen in screenshot)
I very much like Awesome though and how light it is, I may try to use gnome in the future however I thought FP would be a somewhat approporate place to post concerning these issues since many linux forums are much slower, and FP has a lot of people who have a much higher understanding of LUA than I do.
SpaceFM came with the OS, I uninstalled it since I do prefer pcmanfm over spaceFM.
I really don't wish to take the easy way out on this just by using gnome though. Hope you can understand and respect my preference.
Yeah lots of people love Awesome for a reason. Feel free to use it.
I just didn't like it because of the problems you're currently having, Gnome solved all my problems and opened my eyes to how pretty things can be. Have fun, sorry I can't solve your other problems.
I actually discovered in the AUR there is an Awesome-Gnome package, I installed this and ran it.
Everything looked okay when booting, I almost got my cursor and then I got an error message "Something has gone wrong" etc,
Switched WM's and uninstalled, I really wish I knew how to make these things work correctly :downs:
file owned by 'awesome-freedesktop' and 'awesome-freedesktop-git' : 'usr/share/awesome/lib/freedesktop/deskop.lua'
file owned by 'awesome-freedesktop' and 'awesome-freedesktop-git' : 'usr/share/awesome/lib/freedesktop/menu.lua'
file owned by 'awesome-freedesktop' and 'awesome-freedesktop-git' : 'usr/share/awesome/lib/freedesktop/utils.lua'
Keep encountering this error, I believe its the source of a lot of my problems...
[editline]5th February 2014[/editline]
And then I...
yaourt -Rns awesome-freedesktop
yaourt -Rns awesome-freedesktop-git
I am not sure why I'm posting this, but I think it would be relivant to solving problems I am having, I think the end goal here is to have me using the awesome-gnome package
Am I able to use Slim as my login manager or do I have to use gdm if I am using gnome?
As far as I know, GDM is the only display manager that integrates perfectly with Gnome. It enables the ability to lock/sleep the system, but other login managers could enable it too. I just haven't tried.
As for the "error" you're having, it sounds like you have conflicting files with already installed software and software you're trying to install. Removing the offending installed software should fix it. Which it seems like you've already done.
You shouldn't need to install a package from the AUR in order to use Awesome for your window manager with Gnome.
You can just install Gnome normally and follow the instructions here to change the window manager: http://awesome.naquadah.org/wiki/Quickly_Setting_up_Awesome_with_Gnome#Gnome_3.9_.2F_Ubuntu_13.10

Progress...
[t]http://i.imgur.com/am9NDJy.jpg[/t]
Found the problem with the "Something has gone wrong!" error was caused by gnome being launched by Slim rather than GDM, uninstalled Slim, enabled Gdm blah blah... I still want my awesome back... Going to get this the way I want it I swear...
[editline]5th February 2014[/editline]
Wow gnome looks a lot different than it did when I was using Lucid...
