So, facepunch, I would like to build a gaming computer, that's at least decent. I have a monitor already, and I've got about $500 to spend on this. Any help?
Need anything with it? OS, speakers, keyboard, mouse? $500 before or after shipping?
Not $500 exactly, but before it. I've got an OS, speakers, keyboard, and mouse, but it lags pretty badly playing games like TF2, so I'm looking to upgrade it. I don't have ANY knowledge on this, the first time I've tried to do anything like it.
Alright. 500 gb hard drive (Spinpoint or Western Digital, doesn't matter) MSI 870A-G54 Phenom II X2 555 BE Radeon HD 6750 Antec NEO ECO 520W PSU Antec 100 Case 4gb DDR3 Ram And that should probably be just under 500$ (Sorry about being a little vague)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.662122 cheaper, slightly worse psu than the antec but a better case
Threw this together in a few minutes. Case + PSU (Same ones posted by the guy above): http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.662122 CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103940 Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145339 VideoCard (I'm not too sure if the PSU is sufficient for this videocard, so I'll leave this here for people to modify to their pleasure): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161348 Motherboard (This may be a cause for concern as certain people are skeptical about asrock brand, though personally I've had no issues with them, and all reviews I've read so far look good): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157176 HardDisk: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185 Total: $502.93 I'm no winner at putting machines together, but the above should all be compatible and work well.

That CPU is OEM aswell, won't have a cooler so you should just get a retail box CPU. Thanks, everyone. This is helping me out greatly.
I'm MeltingData's older brother and our parents are coming to me with the below computer http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7221312&csid=ITD&body=MAIN It's a prebuilt tower and since I know absolutely nothing about building computers, I'd like your opinions on it. I've been telling them that they're probably going to get more bang for their buck through one of your suggestions but they're being rather stubborn about this one.
It's terrible, don't get it.

Ewwww prebuilt gross. Seriously, just build your own. It's not rocket science, you plug shit in and it works.
Is it possible to use this case with one of those setups? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042
This is a better case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119233&Tpk=haf%20912
Thanks. Here's what I'm planning on getting: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161348 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157176 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371030 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145339 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103846 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119233
