So, I thought I would post an seeing on how I dont know what else to do here. He clicked a link, it installed something automatically as he downloaded it an it kept restarting his PC. I got him to use Malware Bytes and MSE, it got a few things an removed. He rebooted his computer but now, if he even tries to load up Windows Task Manager it just closes after staying open for 2 seconds or so. My only thing would be to use Safe mode an try the scans again and use Spybot search and destroy, any suggestions would help if possible?
He's got Win 7 OS too.
Safe mode with networking. Use mbam again, hitman pro too. Manually uninstall shady programs with revo uninstaller. If problems persist do an offline scan with windows offline defender. He will have to burn it to a CD or USB drive and boot to it.

Also look at startup with autoruns and remove shit that looks shady.
If he's able to tell him to get Ubuntu on a USB stick, so that he can backup his important files. If that doesn't work he should be able to backup any files from the Windows installation DVD, there's a file browser which can be accessed from there, I don't remember exactly what menus I went through though.
Once he's done backing up the important stuff, tell him to reformat.
Also I don't think MSE is good enough on it's own, he should get Avast instead, along with Malwarebytes. The Avast notices are annoying but you can set it to the gaming mode and you never see them ever again.
You could also tell him to just install Avast, maybe it'll pick up the virus during runtime. Spybot is pretty mediocre from what I remember.
There's some data here, but I don't know how reliable it is. I always had issues with AVG and Avira so I don't know. Maybe they improved over time.
