Hello, I'm in need for some help here. I don't know what to do about this problem I have. But I just built my brand new computer (4 gigs of RAM, and a 3.2 Dual Core) and I installed Windows XP 32 bit on it. When I started it up the very first time, it started right away. But ever since then it stays on the Windows XP logo start up menu for a good 5 minutes, and then when it gets past that I then log onto my account and it takes another good 5 minutes to start up everything. I have to wait so much longer than I should before I can click on something and get going. It also never has any problems responding after everything is up and ready. It's just really annoying and a pest to deal with everytime I start my computer up ... it's a good computer, but dang! Can someone please help me out?
P.S. I also went into msconfig and unchecked everything besides Avast, Steam, and my Logitech keyboard drivers to see if that helped it out any, but it seems like it did nothing :/
Is it doing windows updates? Did you completely format the drive when using it in the new PC, or did you just install windows over it?
No, it shouldn't be doing Windows updates. And yeah, I formatted it and everything :/
I'm lost now. All i can think of is your drive's somehow terribly fragmented, or there's lots of programs starting (you said this wasn't the case, though). Maybe avast is doing the first time scans?
