My HP DV6 (which i got for free) seems to get extremely hot while playing games, up to 80c. Is this safe or is there something wrong with it? It is brand new from the store (there was a two for one deal going on so my parents got one and i got the other) or is this just a problem with the DV6 series or is this normal http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256979229872/hp-pavilion-dv-ax-laptop That is the exact model i got.
Spend two hours disasembling the thing and clean the heatsink out. It really isnt good to keep it running lile that.

All dv6's laptops have this problem. They always sound like they are taking off and get very hot. Only solution is a cooling pad and closed headphones.

Well, 80C is not the worst it can get but it is bad. Also, DO NOT PLAY ON SUMMERS! Well, you can but you shouldn't as it can go up to 110C!

HP DV6's are recognized for their awful cooling and overheating problems. I'm not sure how effective a cooling pad would even be.

Use it while it is in a fridge :v:
ahh great
Google it. There may be a solution somewhere. Cleaning the fan will help, but apparently it's almost impossible to reach the fan on a DV6, you basically have to take apart the whole computer.
i dont really want to take it apart since its only 3 weeks old
Returning it is probably the best idea then. If you don't want to get in the guts of a laptop, you've bought the wrong one. It's notoriously hard to clean.

I found that dremeling part of the plastic casing off drastically dropped the temps on a compaq presario V6000 I'm not sure if it's the same with the HP DV6
80C is fine, my G50V's CPU has been hitting 76-77C all day every day for three years on and the GPU hitting 95 Just make sure your CPU hits nothing above 90 and your GPU hits nothing above 100 and you'll be fine [editline]14th October 2011[/editline] running on heatsink paste that has been proven to degrade after two years
