but I know nothing about phones, but I don't want the iPhone

imo the Galaxy S family is the best all around android phone. Best screen of any android phone, best GPU of any android phone currently, a CPU that is equivalent to or slightly better than the Snapdragon, and a small formfactor.

oh and it doesn't have crappy battery life
