As the title says, I am planning to upgrade my motherboard and CPU I have heard that doing this requires a reinstall of the OS Thanks to HP's lovely service, I did not receive a disk copy of win7 when I purchased my computer So what should I do now? Is there a way for me to get a copy of 7 and just enter my product id and not have to pay a cent, or is this going to get more complicated?
You can get a windows copy here, as long as you use your key you should be fine. To my knowledge of windows, you shouldn't need to reinstall it. But i don't know for sure. (User was banned for this post ("Warez" - Autumn))

Plus I don't know if that consider warez, you could be ban for providing a link [editline]11th July 2011[/editline] Just make a ISO file http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/30470-make-bootable-iso-student-d-l.html Or contact Microsoft
It's not wares, those are legitimate copies of windows 7, if he doesn't have a key he can't use them.
It's not wares, those are legitimate copies of windows 7, if he doesn't have a key he can't use them.
In the Microsoft EULA, it clearly states that you're not allowed to make unauthorized copies of the installation media, so it technically IS warez. Though since he has a legit key, it's sort of a gray area. I wouldn't link to warez sites on here, some mods have been known to ban for it in the past, but it's their discretion. But as for the upgrade, I wouldn't recommend it. Most manufacturer built PCs use proprietary mounting systems for every component, and standard stuff usually won't work in it due to mechanical compatibility issues (ie. for motherboards, using trays instead of standoffs, or having standoff holes in proprietary places.) You're better of building a custom PC from scratch to avoid incompatibility headaches.
You may not need to reinstall Windows. Just make sure to uninstall all of your old motherboard drivers and install the new ones after the change. (I already did a motherboard change on an XP computer, there was some error after logon because of the old drivers, but removing them fixed it. I did not need to reinstall XP)
So is that a yes or no on using piratebay?

I've never had a motherboard swap without reinstalling the OS not cause some bizarre problems that weren't fixed until windows was reinstalled.
So is that a yes or no on using piratebay?
The reason HP didn't include a recovery CD is because they probably put a restore partition on your hard drive that you can use with some proprietary software installed on the computer from them. Most manufacturers are doing that these days to save money on having to make recovery media. Though, in your case this wouldn't work because the restore partition is specifically designed for the state the machine currently is in, not with a new motherboard. You have to be very careful where you get your installation media, many of those XP torrents have viruses, keyloggers, etc. integrated into them.
