It's about time the Humans start fighting themselves when there are far more important things to be worrying about.
Seriously though, what's going on with Halo? Halo 4 introduced the Forerunners as the big baddies this time around, I would have thought that 5 would continue that especially since that's how Halo became a thing in the beginning. There was a civil war and then the Covenant became an issue. A civil war sounds more like an ODST style spin-off to me.

There IS a massive Forerunner mecha in the background.
Also, human on human warfare was actually a pretty major point in the Halo series long before Halo 5. It's just that Bungie for whichever reason decided to shove that entire topic off to the side in their games with the exception of a single line mentioning "rebels" in Reach. In Halo Wars the faction that held neutral bases at the start of missions and MP matches was the anti-UNSC human insurrection.
I mean really, with the Covenant neutralized as a threat, this is the perfect time to confront the fact that in universe, at least 50% of humanity DESPISES the UNSC and only kept them around as long as they did because they were the sole viable resistance to the Covenant. Read the books (Yes, Nylund's books, not Traviss's travesties.), the UNSC might as well have been a few steps short of the Sith Empire before the covenant came around and gave them their only legitimate excuse to exist.
I mean, it says it all that the Spartan program was designed in the first place to eliminate political dissidents in a manner that could be described as COINTELPRO on steroids.
One of the Spartans on Locke's side has an ODST helmet
For the record, the Spartans with John (Master Chief) are Blue Team, some of the original Spartans. They are important in the Halo books (canon, read the original few)
Can't wait to see some Reach-style team mechanics here.

Here's hoping it's like two separate campaigns rather than doing it Halo 2-style, then, because there seems to be a really large duality effect and just having one story that switches you off between the two wouldn't do the concept justice.
It would be interesting if Master Chief and the rest of blue team is actually teamed up with the rebel factions in halo 5. It would make sense mostly because Cortana's original creator is wanted by the UNSC, and basically most of the civilian population hates the UNSC in general.
The trick would be making the human faction fun to fight against, I mean most enemies in the halo series had patterns or gimmicks to make them feel unique, elites had shields and often would pace sideways or back and forth to doge fire unless enraged in which they would charge at you plasma blazing and trying to whack you on the noggin.
I guess you could make them have a extreme weakness to covie weapons.

If the recent soundcloud clips are anything to go by, the odst seem to think chief is a traitor. Think that might be a factor.
