• Adobe CS2 is now free from Adobe - Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, and more

[del]Today Adobe has released CS2 to the public for free. They probably did this because CS2 has been end-of-life for a while now. If anybody's using Paint.NET or the Gimp and wants to move up to something a little better, now's your chance.[/del] Just kidding, apparently it's only for customers that legally bought CS2 and now need to activate it. Sorry guys.
This is pretty amazing, I have a newer mac version, but this will be great for my windows partition.
I never liked the interface on CS2, and somehow I prefer GIMP, the damage has already been done :(

I definitely like the concept of "make our older stuff free for all". Definitely hope more companies catch on to the idea than just Adobe.
Now I just need to figure out how to use it at all
http://puu.sh/1KYPC Actually it isn't free at all.

And then when some of these people get decent in their craft and want to make a business out of it, they end up actually buying their product, creating more customers over the long term. [editline]7th January 2013[/editline]
http://puu.sh/1KYPC Actually it isn't free at all.
I don't know who they're trying to fool here. "Here's a DRM Free program at zero cost! Download link is right here! Don't download it!"
so they even provide the serials uh yeah ur basically giving it away free
Welp
But does it work?
This belongs on The Onion because it's a sick joke.
Too late Adobe. And I doubt "well if you didn't buy it before you cant have it" is going to hold up in court.
Holy shit!
Well, if you don't own the product and you're downloading this version, you might as well be pirating the newest one since they're both stealing. [editline]8th January 2013[/editline] also am pretty disappointed, thought adobe did something cool for once

Ohhh testicles.
taking advantage of a dumb mistake like this is nowhere near the same as stealing
It's as much "stealing" as going and torrenting CS6 (which isn't really), just because one is easier doesn't make it any less true.
It's as much "stealing" as going and torrenting CS6 (which isn't really), just because one is easier doesn't make it any less true.
except one is legal and the other isn't? what are adobe gonna do, send me angry emails? if they wanted to let people keep CS2 they would have used a much better method
except one is legal and the other isn't? what are adobe gonna do, send me angry emails? if they wanted to let people keep CS2 they would have used a much better method
They're both illegal, you're supposed to be the owner of a valid CS2 license already, and unless they messed up this should be reflected in any licensing agreement that pops up when you install. What Adobe is going to do is completely irrelevant to whether something is legal or not.

Uh, there's no disclaimer on the download page saying you 'have to have a license already'. Unless they put that there then they've shot themselves in the foot because there's nothing illegal about downloading software which is free to download, then using a serial number which has been openly provided to you without having to pay.
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1114930 It's heavily implied that this is a solution for owners of CS2 who are unable to activate their copies because they retired the activation servers. Also, an Adobe staffer explicitly said that they aren't giving it away for free: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4974662#4974662 They absolutely have every legal right to prosecute you. Will they? No, but that doesn't suddenly make it legal.
This is quite smart on Adobe's part, if they are following the same goal that many believe they were going for (getting people tied into their tools through piracy). Of course this could be utter bullshit, I'm not honestly sure which to believe. They obviously can't give it away for free, or professionals would use it. But this way, they are giving it away for free while protecting themselves, as well as saving money on running activation servers (probably insignificant, but wouldn't be surprised if they were doing something dumb like 1 server per physical box), and on top of that they are drawing away casual piracy of their latest products and attracting non-pirates to give their software a go.
Adobe's always been pretty cool about piracy because it lets people get familiar with their software and with the people who do buy it, they're still making a grand amount of money.
It's only 4 generations behind, but how can I say no to free stuff [editline]8th January 2013[/editline] Also lol the Mac version of the CS2 can only be installed onto PPC Macs
Uh, there's no disclaimer on the download page saying you 'have to have a license already'.
It might not have been obvious to some but I never tried to claim that simply downloading the file is illegal.
It might not have been obvious to some but I never tried to claim that simply downloading the file is illegal.
They're always full downloads anyway. Even the trials.
There isn't much they can do about it, I think they'll eventually decide to give it away anyway. I mean it's 2005 software, CS2 doesn't have half the codecs and plugins CS6 has. I don't see how they're losing money.
well after this people might start making CS2 addons again maybe i dunno
