Hey, So i recently got a new laptop, but while at school, some retard kicked my backpack off a table (honestly, who does that?). The laptop was in a sleeve in my backpack and didnt have any physical signs of harm, but the computer seems to run slower. I think some damage was done to the hard drive, so im thinking of upgrading it. I know i wont get as much storage as i would with a normal HDD, but the added speed on a SSD really appeals to me. 64 or 128GB? Brand? If i replaced the hard drive, how would i re-install windows? Just use the key on the sticker on the back of the laptop? (i bought it recert. so it didnt come with any CD's). Also, Does anyone happen to know if its possible to merge two user accounts in w7? Thanks
Probably the best choice would be a OCZ Vertex 120GB, a good drive with 270-280MBs Read/Write.
Unless the hard drive was running at the time of the fall, it's most likely fine. Laptop drives (and hard drives in general) pull the heads off the platters when offline to prevent head strikes in situations like that. Most modern laptop drives also have freefall sensors, so when the laptop detects it's falling, it will park the heads to brace for impact. If the drive did suffer a head strike, it wouldn't just be running slow, it likely wouldn't even boot and you would have severe data corruption and not be able to read files or open applications.

I had to phone Toshiba (the make of my laptop) and pay them to send me a restore disk.
Alright thanks for the responses. Maybe its the 5400 rpm harddrive thats making it run slow. Still a SSD would be pretty cool to have in a laptop. Ill think about it, but theres no rush. Alright...I may have an extra copy around here somewhere...

Don't ask us what size of drive you would use we don't know you we're not god.
128GB. I think im just going to stick with the drive i have right now. Its not horrible. I want money for when portal 2 comes out (i know, i know. Still havent pre-ordered it).
