I am looking to buy a web domain, but I don't know who to host with or what name to get. GoDaddy seems to be the cheapest of all popular contenders, but I know nothing past that. Also, both code.gs and codegs.com are both taken -- and the domain owners haven't responded to my emails -- so I don't know what name or extension to get.
I've heard a lot of bad news from godaddy customers,
personally I've been using namecheap, which have a very responsive support system and knowledgebase for their services
also get one of those fancy new tlds if you want, and have the money
Also, get something with WhoIs Privacy, so no one pulls a doxx on you
I use one.com. They're cheap, provide great service, and have nice webspeed.
I own a domain through google domains, and that is alright. I haven't had any problems.
I've also used namecheap before, that's great.
I've also used godaddy before. STEER CLEAR!
I use Hetzner.de, though they have a limited amount of domain names available.
I went away from GoDaddy and I will stay away from them. I don't like their domain squatting and auctioning one bit.
I actually managed to win an auction but they conveniently ommited that the price was without tax (which is sort of expected in EU for private customer or to be at least noted) and without ICANN fees (understandable). I shelled out 160€ for a .com domain and I'm still waiting to transfer the domain away (even though ICANN doesn't allow transfer locks after domain purchase).
tl;dr: Bad vibes, I'd avoid them
Thank you everyone. I'm going to go for codegs.me with NameCheap and hopefully, code.gs doesn't renew their domain registration in 2016.
