[IMG]http://i54.tinypic.com/25irui0.jpg[/IMG] A local electronic appliance store is having a blow out sale for tomorrow only, and this is one of the biggest attractions. Do you guys think it's worth it, dispite the fact that it's a plasma TV that is only capable of outputting in 720P, and have a ridiculously high 600hz refresh rate?
Yes
Yes. The only negative thing about it is that its only 720p. Other than that it is a great deal.

Yeah but that is only if you leave it on a static menu right? And they go away i thought. I'm not really a fan of plasma's though. I don't own one though.

If you sit down and watch a show on the same channel for a several hours straight, the network's logo on the bottom of the screen may get burned into the screen permanently.
Everyone hops on the bandwagon and thinks plasmas burn in. Every plasma, probably for about two years have implemented a screen saver and or auto turn off. If there is no change in motion within 5-10 minutes. It either goes to a screen saver or shuts off. Not really sure if its a good buy. 720p isn't all that great. I got a 42inch 1080p for 600.
The only real fear of burn-in nowadays is people who leave the brightness to max and watch letterbox TV only. The bars on the side WILL burn in if you ALWAYS watch letterbox so just be attentive to the fact that you shouldn't have a static image on the screen too long. Plasmas are a brilliant technology and my 42" samsung plasma is stunning. Take care of it and you will really enjoy it.

[editline]10:55PM[/editline] anyway, op, as others have said: the catch is that it's 720p under 30" 720p isn't that bad for a tv (don't bitch about size because there's specific distance you're suggested to sit from the display depending on the size), but at 50"? don't fucking do it. hell, get a smaller screen at 1080p and even sit the same distance away and it'll look better [editline]10:58PM[/editline] also i personally do not like the look of plasmas, i've never seen one that actually looked good in the sense that it replicated natural colors and tones. they have amazing contrast ratios, static and dynamic alike, but the color just looks so odd. also they generate heat like a motherfucker so if you live somewhere where it's warm make sure you have at least a small fan aimed at you or something
No, seems to cheap. If you want to spend $550 on a plasma, its going to break in a month.
For that specific Samsung model, it's not bad from what I saw. The reason why it is being sold at a low price is because of its age, as it is obsolete.

yeah really what's wrong with LG
550? NICE, I would defiantly would buy it.
That 600Hz won't be real 600Hz, It's a marketing tool, kinda like dynamic contrast ratios.
Or a yellow spectrum RGBY
Pause gay porn, burn it on screen, sell for cheaper.

[QUOTE=Justice;24894542]What's wrong with LG?[/QUOTE] cheap shameless knockoffs, poor build quality, and in general they don't last long [editline]01:09PM[/editline] just like their phones: shit
I've always associated LG with decent quality, and that is from hands on experience. I've got 3 LG monitors and an LG HDTV and an LG Blu-ray drive in my PC. I was greatly put off their phones though, my Viewty was slow and frustrating to use. Had no fault with any of them though. And in the case of the LG HDTV they were nice enough to PROPERLY document the serial control protocol in great detail! - I will probably end up buying a standalone LG blu-ray player too as the HTPC route has proven to be a bit of a software minefield, good for ripping bad for playing. Your experiences sound like they haven't been so great however.
To be honest, 720p will probably look like shit on a 50". I have a 720p 36" and I can easily tell the difference even at that size.
Never had a problem with LG TVs and other people around me have never had any problems with their TVs (I can't say much about their phones or other things since I've never used them).
I didn't buy the TV today. They had a demo unit in store, and the quality looked quite bad
LG env2 still works like new after 2 years
almost 2 years ago I got a deal for a 65in DLP tv, its a Mitsubishi. $1300, and it came with a $200 table and a 60gb Xbox 360
