Say what you want about the texture and the racing, but Rage's shotgun is probably my fav weapon in an FPS.
The AI was pretty good compared to other shooters.
I liked Rage, it wasn't perfect of course, but the shooting parts were fun and the enviroment looked stunning, as well as the characters. A shame the story was stupid and it ended way to early.
I've heard that Rage isn't that good, what's so bad about it exactly? Been thinking about buying it.
I bought Rage during the sale. I couldn't believe how bored I got during the first half hour. Sure, it looks great, (but what doesn't these days) but it just felt extremely shallow. Just shoot shoot and shoot some more, basically non-existent story and enemy AI that fails to impress. I grew up with Wolf3d, Doom etc. and if this had come out back then, sure I would've probably loved it, but I guess in this day and age you just expect more from an FPS. It's just boring.

However, the gameplay, the weapons, the artwork, the environments, in my opinion are absolutely amazing. So good, in fact, that it's one of my favorite games, even with its awful ending.
Rage is essentially a modern day "classic" shooter. Personally, I had a blast with the shooting but there wasn't any meat in the game at all. There was so much potential.
It was fun until the game just stopped. I'm saying it stopped because that game did not have an ending. It dragged down the whole game. Also, there wasn't much to do in the large open world they had
I just wish the shitty texture pop-in would stop for me. Literally whenever I turn my back, it takes like 10seconds for all the textures to load, and another 10 for when I turn back round again.

rage was petty fun but was way too easy, not much to do in game, lacked a lot in story and just in the world in general, still it had some good gunplay and a great art style.
The gun play felt good for like, the first two missions, then it went all stupid and enemies had enough health to take 1/3 or 2/3's of your assault rifle magazines (definitely the latter in the last part of the game against those armoured guys) which just made it a chore to play. They essentially became bullet sponges. The plot wasn't anything great, the first 10 times I loaded it up I had massive texture problems that made the game unplayable until I found a fix that worked, and the environments ranged from 'cool' to 'ugh, how boring'. Overall, I thought it was at best, a 'meh' game and stopped playing past the point with the dingy black 'badlands' style environment bit.
RAGE is good but I expected the world to be bigger than it was. It sorta abruptly ended for me, was expecting to explore the south and west wastelands. That kinda killed it for me.

Needed to be more explorer friendly. I hated how you would just die or be thrown against impossible elements just be going off track very slightly. Lazy game design.
I also bought RAGE on sale. But I just can't play it because of the low FOV. It's literally at 45 or something.
Have you tried this?
I'm pretty sure I tried everything, it just kept happening.
I also bought RAGE on sale. But I just can't play it because of the low FOV. It's literally at 45 or something.
Pretty sure you can change that in the ini files.

The largest problem is the game doesn't make the folder to place the texture cache. Between creating the missing folder and using the cfg creator I ended up with 60fps locked running at 2560x1440.
Make a folder named "id software" in C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\ (This gives filecache000 a place to go, almost entirely removing texture pop-in.) Then use this CFG maker. Put the new rageconfig CFG in the Rage/base folder. http://online-source.net/tools/cfg-makers/rage-cfg-maker/ And you're fixed! Game looks great and runs great.
rage is a good game, it's just that everyone expected it to be the second coming of shooter games even though none of the videos made it look like that so they all got pissed off at it I however went in with incredibly low expectations and was very pleasantly surprised
Best part of RAGE was bunnyhopping and never using a car. Made the game super fun for me. but of course the best reason is Loosum Hagar, the wingstick trainer

My rage was never dead, I'm still furious.
The ending was never lead up to. You expected just slightly more to end a high note but nope that was the ending.

Have to pick it up again one of these days and actually finish it... I love the visual style, it may not be too high detail but they just managed to pack SO MUCH in.
the wingstick and shotgun are also some of the most satisfying weapons i have ever used
I've heard that Rage isn't that good, what's so bad about it exactly? Been thinking about buying it.
The ending is probably the most anti-climatic ending ever. It's like fighting the "personification of Evil", winning, and then exiting through the back door before rolling to the credits. It's not a bad game despite the textures sometimes not refreshing well, but it just isn't all that great. It's ok at best, if you don't count the awful ending...
Story in a game is like a story in a porn movie. It's expected to be there, but it's not that important.
I never thought I'd see so many people talking about the story in an ID game. I haven't played much Rage, though the gunplay was really satisfying, and the death animations were amazing. I should probably go back to it, I had a bunch of other games I was playing at the time so I kind of forgot about it.
ID knows how to make a shotgun feels like a shotgun. I hope on next rage, they improve the bad things on the first game. overall i liked the game
