What program would I use to make electronic music, likes beats and whatnot
[You can pretty easily judge from my post that i'm new to this kind of stuff]

Don't expect to start it up, become a pro, make music and then be famous.
Also get a synthesizer.
Wrong section + I don't understand why there is so many of these topics. For any person who's going to be good regarding electric music their passion would've driven them to research and find out exactly what they need on their own. You are in a phase and will get bored with it in a month or two.
Fruity Loops with various plugins is actually pretty great.

No its not. It is nothing more than a shitty collection of shitty loops made by shitty artists such as Deadmau5. Please, if you're going to force electronic music, get a Microkorg at least and be original.

Yes sure, why not build a studio before knowing anything about studio work? That's such a dumb post, he even said he's new to the stuff.

It's actually pretty decent.

Deadmau5 uses Ableton Live, as far as I know. Even though I think he's shit.

The point I made is that you won't go anywhere without REAL musical equipment, not shitty sampling programs.
The point I made is that you won't go anywhere without REAL musical equipment, not shitty sampling programs.
Of course not, but real musical equipment costs almost as much as a new car, so it'd be better for him to try FL Studio first and see if he likes it.

You couldn't be more wrong. The only thing you really need is a MIDI controller. For pretty much everyone on FP there are very few instances where a hardware synth is really the better option than a good set of softsynths + a quality controller.
e: and really, a microKorg? You're suggesting that as his first thing he gets a rather limited 37-key synth/vocoder?
When you smoke dope and play with a Microkorg ANYTHING, and I mean ANYTHING is possible with a Microkorg.

Not at all.
OP; demo the different DAWs that are available, and instead of a microkorg, get one of these:

or something similar. That keyboard will control a variety of software based synths, and also has two audio in/outs with it as well. All of this works over USB.

I don't need a Microkorg to come up with something good when stoned. I only use my computer keyboard. Too bad I'm loosing motivation pretty fast when stoned, so I never finish a song.

FL Studio is quite capable, and if you know the right people, you can get your own custom samples instead of using the stock ones. FL also has softsynths, so samples aren't always necessary.
To OP:
For drums, don't use FL unless you've got your own samples. Go with Superior Drummer or BFD2 if you've got the space. They aren't TOO expensive. Then again, nothing is if you steal. That, or create your own beats without synths. I guess it depends on the sound you're going for.
A lot of dubstep (WUBWUBWUB fuck dubstep) artists use Propellerhead Reason.

Hans Zimmer demos all of his scores in that program first (he writes his music in Cubase)
Sony Acid Studio, Acoustica Mixcraft 5.1, and Melodyne Studio. And then Nero Burning Rom for final mastering. Those are the apps my brother uses in his professional studio.
Ableton live if you've got the money I use it and I love it. It's really all preference try all the demo's of the software or free version here and use what you want.
Too many optimists in this thread. Needs moar realists.

Why do you suddenly need drugs to come up with ideas for music?
Learn FL, your good to go.
No synthesizers or samplers. This isn't the 80's anymore.
Learn a proper instrument like the sax, or learn to sing.

synths are just as popular now bro
Get an old analog synthesizer and fuck with all the knobs and switches.
Instantly makes awesome music.
Ableton Live! and Propellerheads Reason are really good softwares, but expensive as fuck. There's also Pro Tools, still expensive.
Don't have any idea on FL, last time I used it it was like FL9, and it was shitty.
FL Studio is good. Anybody who says it isn't is talking out of their ass. It's as good as you make it.
Fl Studio is a very powerfull software,Itll all comes down to the user.
Ived use Fl studio since the very fruity loops 3.2 And Ive seen the change it went trough.
Its a very good software to start with,It can be upgraded with Midi controllers/Vst Plugins and such
Check out for some basic tutorials on youtube and youll be making music in no time !
Good luck ! :)

Quite ironic for someone who collects electronics from the 80's... Just sayin'.
Don't use FL if you wan't actually make anything from 'cheesy crap', I advise using Reason and Ableton Live.
