• PC at very high CPU usage levels (80-100%) When only running Firefox+msn+Steam
    8 replies, posted
My specs are: 1gb of ram 2.13ghz Single core 128mb ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600 70gb HDD, 10gb free It's a laptop Ok, my highest memory users are Firefox, msn, steam and nod32, the rest are pretty low usage. So i'm fucked, i can't do anything. The strange thing is, sometimes it's at 80-100% CPU usage, and sometimes it goes down to 10-50% for awhile. I'm thinking of defragmenting my HDD, but it'll take a shit long time (more then 24 hours i think, HDD is only 12% defragmented) Any tips Facepunch can recommend? Also reformatting is not an option, since i have nothing to back up my HDD on. I can't even run TF2 now :sigh: I've been googling solutions, but it only comes up with stories of idiots that have shitloads of viruses on their pc.
Run virus scan with NOD32 and Spyboy S&D
Remove: msn and nod32. After that run a virus, malware scan.
Yeah i will. But i doubt it'll come up with anything. [editline]01:07PM[/editline] nod32 IS my anti-virus
Try it without steam running at all

Try opera instead of firefox... it might work faster... (If it doesn't, switch back!) *Shitstom avoided*
I don't understand the problem. All you've just said is how your CPU usage goes up to 80-100% while running three apps at the same time. Thats to be expected, with your specs. If its speed thats the problem, try upgrading to 2 GB of RAM.
2.13ghz Single core
Probably a pentium 4. Thats your problem right there. Don't say I'm wrong. Ive had the experience.
