So basically my dvd is unable to read or boot off dvd's or CD's.
In my Bios in the boot tab.
It shows Hard Drives and Removable Devices, the dvd drive is in the removable section.
Heres how it shows up on my pc...

To be honest, the drive sounds dead. Did you check it's connections?

I have 4 dvd drives. ive tried them all. the mobo just randomly started doing this about a month ago.
So none of the 4 would work? Maybe you have a bad IDE cable.

Must of missed that part. My Apologies.

I can't put my finger on it.
I doubt you've tried a sata drive?
Sounds like the IDE connector on the motherboard isn't functioning. If your motherboard supports sata i suggest trying out what Michael haxz said. (Try a sata drive)
Well I don't have a SATA drive but my guess was to get a new mobo or a SATA drive but it would be easier just to have this figured out.

SATA disc drives aren't very expensive. That may be the way to go unless you really love IDE drives, which if you did I wouldn't blame you.

Er, why wouldn't you blame him? IDE is horrible. OP needs to buy a $20 SATA DVD burner.

and, uh, have you tried a verified working CD / DVD?

IDE Drives may be outdated but I would still trust them. They are reliable and have done me a world of good.
I think he has tried that already.

Do people ever read threads anymore?

Nobody has asked (nor have you told us) if you have tried a DVD / CD that you have verified to be working correctly.
dvd is unable to read or boot off dvd's or CD's.
This is the closest thing to that anywhere in the thread, but it fails to mention if they work in any other PCs.

reread that
I think Shadaez means the disc, not the disc-reader. Are you using a disc that actually works in other pcs?

Yes I have tried different cd's

Once again, have you verified that the CD (Compact Disc, not a CD Drive, which is what reads them) is verified to be working in a different computer. Also, not sure if it's a burnt disc or not, but older drives don't like burnt drives.

It looks like your going to just need to buy a sata drive dude. Unless you badly want to keep your IDE drive.
