Hey,
I got this thing here: http://www.maplin.co.uk/500gb-core-external-desktop-usb-2.0-hard-drive-510781
Can I snap it out of it's casing and make place it into PC? Or do you think it will have some kind of different connection? It's powered by socket btw.
You should be able to just pop open the casing and unplug the sata & power connector that's inside. I suggest not destroying the case too much because you could also use it again as an external HD if you so desired.
Please be aware that you need a pair.
– with USB2 or high-speed USB3, CnM CORE HDD demands you to grow a pair. Dare to be different.
I did this awhile ago, I plan to use my External HDD's casing for a Raspberry PI
Just opened it up, it's 7200 RPM
Think it will be faster reading/writing if I plug it into PC? I mean right now it's working through USB 2

You will have a significantly higher speed using Sata and placing the HDD inside your computer rather than using USB 2.0.

Apparently it's not SATA, it's that other one (the flat wide wire)

IDE thats old,
You can still get converters (or pci cards) to use it.
Not sure about the speeds though.

Interesting, I had one like that when I took an old WD External HD apart. (It's IDE and fairly old tech that's being/has been phased out)
Most motherboards should still have a port for an IDE ribbon cable; mine does at least and it's a Gigabyte Mobo from 2009. From my experience it was much quicker than USB 2.0; the read and write speeds changed a bit in my view because I often loaded games and such onto it. Once I made it internal data and such was accessed much quicker; as well as writes/transfers.
nvm I am dumb, it's sata , just didn't see it before removing fully.
