• Sony Handycam Mini Dv help?

Hi All, So I have this video camera. But it's a bit older, it still uses tapes but is digital, with Sony Memory sticks. I have a bunch of memory sticks, and I think I have ONE tape left for it, but I was wondering since there seems to be stuff already on the memory stick [possibly from my other camera] is there a way that I can hook this up through USB to take things from the Memory stick? Or do I have to use firewire? I haven't tried the firewire yet, but I will if that's what I have to do. Thanks!
If its on a Sony Memorystick, you should just be able to plug it into a card reader that supports Sony MemorySticks.

Firewire. Normally under windows it's seen as a capture device with VCR control so you can then transfer video using whatever program you like and it's digital so the link between the camera and the computer is lossless.
Isn't there a USB port on the camera?
Isn't there a USB port on the camera?
There should be a USB cable and a port. That's the only way to extract picture without removing the mem stick
If i were you op, go to a shop and get a $2 card reader, much easier if you cant figure out where the usb port is on the camera

Normally the USB port on a Handycam is an alternative to the firewire port for getting video off the tape but the quality is really, really bad.
This. Normally the USB port on a Handycam is an alternative to the firewire port for getting video off the tape but the quality is really, really bad.
Although the old models did use only firewire as it streams data (more bandwith) as opposed to usb which sends it in chunks (universal serial bus) so idk if i were op just get a card reader haha
Card reader is the best option. Its not that expensive OP. Heck, many HP printers come with them built in.
