• Help upgrading computer

My computer is a pre-built HP Media Center m7367c. I decided to upgrade and it seemed like I only needed to upgrade 3 things. CPU, MOBO, GPU. I soon realized well 3 512mb RAM is shit so lets get 2 1 GBs RAM(should be compatible with my new motherboard on wishlist). I googled to see my PSU and after reading the specs I was unsure if it is compatible with my new upgrades. https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?BundleExist=N&ID=11251792&ChangeQty=0 I really am only buying Vista for the Windows 7 coupon :P. Here is my current computers specs. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00583848&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=1831238&lang=en My PSU doesn't seem to show on there so here is a link to it. http://www.atxpowersupplies.com/630-watt-power-supply.php Basically, I want to know if my current PSU can be used w/ my new upgrades.
So your getting a new CPU/Mobo/GPU/RAM/OS. Why not just build a new computer instead of upgrading everything but the case?
God, that power supply looks like a type. 630W? $50? No.
1. Internal relay & external switch for switching on/off 2. Selectable 110V or 220V switch 3. Full Support for P4 & AMD CPU's 4. Three Cooling Fans with chrome grills 5. Extremely quiet power supply
Three fans + quiet = DOES NOT COMPUTE Not to mention half of those aren't even features.
Your PSU isn't very trustworthy. I'd replace it
So your getting a new CPU/Mobo/GPU/RAM/OS. Why not just build a new computer instead of upgrading everything but the case?
Lol, basically. I might just do that though money is tight :(
What's your budget?
In theory that PSU could be used with your new computer, it seems to have most of the connectors you'll likely need. In reality, if you are spending that kind of cash on a new system(new CPU/mobo/Ram/GPU= new system), why are you trying to skimp on the key to the whole thing- power?
I'm really not. I thought that my PSU was good(hah right..) or could at least handle my new upgrades. My budget would probably be $500.
Well, depending on the videocard you choose, you might get by with that card. If you got a 4670/4770 type card, with low power demands, and you weren't overclocking anything- your power needs might just be low enough that even that PSU you have now can handle it. The downside is that kind of limits what videocards you can choose from. Most of the powerful ones need a PSU with more backbone.
You could get a GTS 250. It can run on a 128w power supply.
Just save up some more money and build a new rig. [editline]12:22AM[/editline] You could even salvage from your current PC to bring down costs.
Just save up some more money and build a new rig. [editline]12:22AM[/editline] You could even salvage from your current PC to bring down costs.
Lol, I don't see much to salvage other than my keyboard(my mouse sucks). For a new computer( I really only want to pay around $400-$500). I am also looking to crossfire so later on I may just buy the same one. MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131381 CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103680 GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161260 RAM: Either 2 1GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134218 or 1 2GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104072 CASE/PSU Combo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.206135 DVD: not sure but http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136167 If any are not compatible or you think I could save money on X then that would be great. Thanks!
Looks ok, get a better power supply and drop the 4830 for a 4770.
Yeah, I was thinking about the 4770 but was unsure. That one isn't good? Not sure what else then. 4770: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102835R Is it better to get one 2GB RAM? or 2 1GB RAM?
2x1GB. Run that shit in dual channel.
Fuck 2x1, 2x2 dominates.
Yeah, but I'm not running on 64-bit anytime soon. Is that PSU good? Not sure what to look for.
Yeah, but I'm not running on 64-bit anytime soon. Is that PSU good? Not sure what to look for.
Why?
x64 is better, though
I know that but right now money is tight and I really just want to upgrade my system. Believe me I'd love to. Especially, with that Windows 7 coupon. I'd most likely have to wait until late Aug. or Sept. to have enough money for that. My friend says that 750w is way too much.
Wait if your buying vista now buy 64bit, it's the same price. And yea 750w is a bit overkill, and the psu sucks.
Yeah, I'll definitely buy 64-bit. and 2x2 GB RAM. Is this good? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182030
No. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139008
Ok thanks.. I'm thinking about changing my case to an Antec 300. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042
Ok thanks.. I'm thinking about changing my case to an Antec 300. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042
Go for it. Antec is much better than Roseshit.
So, MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131381 CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103680 CASE: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042 DVD: not sure but http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827136167 PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139008 RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231166 For the ATi HD 4770, I honestly don't know where to find it. All the ones on newegg are soldout.
Going to just buy a 4850 instead. Or should I just wait until the 4770 is released?
Going to just buy a 4850 instead. Or should I just wait until the 4770 is released?
You could just run off integrated for a few months and wait for the 5000 series cards to come out. Then the 4000's are gonna have a big price drop.
I rather buy a card now. Not waiting to Q4 of 2009.
Go for the 4850 then.
