An alternative to Vegas to edit fraps videos? Or an alt way to record eduke32?

As I lack Sony vegas, I am having a bit of trouble trying to get fraps in a more compressed format, one that is also editable. As it stands, a lot of what I've tried has failed so far, either due to incompatibilty, or sheer stupidity.
Beyond Vegas, I have used Lightworks, Windows Movie Maker, and Virtualdub.
Lightworks fails to import it every time, as I've found out the failure is due to the fact that it isn't compatible with large, uncompressed avi's such as the one fraps makes. Which is sad, because I was really hoping this worked.
WMM just outright failed to import it, and I've tried installing codecs to see if one makes it compatible. Sadly, that failed.
Virtualdub I know next to nothing about, so I've had little luck with it.
Is there anything else that can edit fraps, or am I going to have to "get" Vegas?
As a last resort, does anyone know of a recording software that can successfully capture video in eduke32? Both Camtasia and camstudio failed to do so, and fraps was the only successful one. The main reason is that there is a freeware game called WGrealms Siege Breaker, which has one of the most badass custom characters, Jedrik Demonhorn. To say anymore would be a spoiler, as the game is quite kickass.
Useful advice is immensely appreciated.
Getting Vegas would be good, as it is an insanely good video editing software.
However, if you just wish to convert the videos into a more 'editable' format, you can use Freemake's Video Converter.

DUDE. It worked perfectly! Why have I never heard of this thing before? Anyway, it's freaking awesome, I didn't think I could record with fraps, but this just made everything a heck of a lot easier!
Thank you, I admit I was expecting an answer, but I also wasn't expecting someone to solve my problem in one fell swoop! Also, this ought to be a sticky, since it is free and it pretty much eliminates a lot of hassle.
