Laptop/Ipod wont connect to internet without restarting router

I have a laptop and an Ipod touch that wont connect to the internet unless I restart my router. So each time I disconnect from the internet, say I turn off my laptop/ipod touch or something, and I try to connect again, it will tell me I have local access only and I'm "connected with limited access". The only way I can fix this is if I restart my router and I'm wondering if there's something else I can do instead because I'm going to break my router if I keep unplugging and replugging the power cord. I have a feeling my router might be faulty or I have the settings set incorrectly.
