• Newly built computer extremely slow online
    7 replies, posted
I recently built a computer, using Windows 7, but my internet connection is extremely slow compared to my regular speeds (from 150kb/s average to 50kb/s average). I read that the XFast LAN software included with my Motherboard can sometimes slow network connections down, and though uninstalling it did help somewhat, it's still slower than I would usually get. I am currently connecting through a T-LINK TL-WN722N wireless dongle.
You know what might help? Posting your specs. Try a speccy screenshot as a starter.

Make sure you are getting a decent signal and that your router is also running in Wireless-N mode and not in A/B/G/.
Make sure you are getting a decent signal and that your router is also running in Wireless-N mode and not in A/B/G/.
Windows says that my signal is excellent, and my router has no Wireless-N mode unfortunately. I should've mentioned that no other computers running off of the router are having any speed issues.
If no other computers are having problems and you've only just installed Windows then I can only imagine it's the network card or what you're using to connect from that computer
If no other computers are having problems and you've only just installed Windows then I can only imagine it's the network card or what you're using to connect from that computer
I've tried two different wireless cards and the motherboard's ethernet port. All of them seem quite sluggish. I've also reinstalled windows to make sure there's no issue there, but it didn't help. It does, however, seem to be slowly improving. I don't know why or how, but it's a little better now. [editline]28th May 2013[/editline] Oh, another networking issue I'm having is that wired connections now seem to not work at all, giving me a "Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration" error in the troubleshooter. I'm not sure if these are related, but a wired connection may be better than the WiFi, if I can get it to work.
It seems that it was, in fact, an issue with the router and now I feel a bit stupid. It seems that since connecting a Sky+HD box to the router, my speeds dropped.
