From constant use, the serial number has rubbed off. I need it to order my free copy of Windows 7. How can I get it? I bought it at a Best Buy a few months ago, will they have the serial number on file?

Not terribly likely they will be able to help you. Does it have any kind of service tag? Did you register the system with the manufacturer when you bought it?
Also, if you still have the box it originally came in you might be in luck. Notebooks will often have a S/N sticker on the box as well as the system itself.
