What are gelaskins?

These are both cool, but I prefer a clear plastic back case so I can print anything I want and slip it in.
Right now I have this one, with a white silicone band around it, and I photo-shopped Tetris on the Gameboy screen.

I had a [url]http://skiner.pl[/url] one and I've removed it because it was unbearable to hold my iPhone on my hand.
I've already plan to buy the aperture science gelaskin. That is if they don't change the design for the iPhone 5
Not to clued up on it to be honest.

Ok, so I couldn't find a decent Bicycle one, so I made my own.

That Giger one is pretty sweet, It maybe my next backing.
I might actually get one, my biggest worry is putting the cover on the phone. I don't feel like messing up.
Is it just a sticker, or is it actually a case for it?
I'd love to design one of these for myself but is it really worth £9?

Skins definitely look cooler on the iPhone 4, since it has hard edges.
How well do these protect?
Not well against drops, and I'm guessing ok against scratches.
I assume its more for design rather than protection.
