Anyone here subscribed to one of those subscription boxes or know anybody who is? I'm not asking to necessarily question why, just genuinely curious.
A few of my coworkers get them. They seem generally pleased with it, most of them went balls deep and got the yearly subscription. I have other things to spend my paycheck on.
My parents and a friend of mine both used to subscribe to it. They've also both cancelled.
I had one for about a year. I unsubscribed because each box seemed to get lamer than the last. Maybe I'm not the target market though.

I subbed a few months ago (splurged and got the yearly base crate + Anime Crate). I'm generally pleased with the base crate. The futuristic crate was pretty damn cool, I'm getting the new one "Speed" tomorrow. The Anime crate for me is so-so right now. "Squadron" was cool since I got some neat stuff from the GATE anime. "Back to School" wasn't so great. I liked the Trigger Happy Havoc Tie though. I basically keep the stuff I like and put the rest on Ebay.
I got a bunch of T shirts from a friend that subscribed to several of these since he's morbidly obese. None of them held up for more than a couple of months. Thin cotton, when they were even made of cotton, and the designs wore off quickly. None of them lasted more than a couple months, and most of them broke down so badly they weren't even worth keeping as rags. I really don't understand the appeal. There's maybe one or two things in every box that I'd even consider keeping, and most of that's just because I wouldn't actively want to get rid of it. It's almost exclusively novelty items that have no practical use. General consensus from the people buying them is that the quality has consistently gone down over time. How much of that is because the novelty has worn off, I don't know. From my perspective they started so low to begin with that I can't even tell.
I subscribed to the gaming one a few weeks ago. Should be getting my first crate shipped sometime after the 28th. 4/5 of the game franchises I'm interested in so here's hoping it's good. I'll probably cancel immediately after unless they update the site and say "here's next month's crate" and it's got neat shit in it too.
Yes
I'm subscribed to Nerd Block. Generally I'm happy with it. I like the style that they go with where you have about 6 different boxes to choose from, depending on what genre or style of box you want. I go with the sci-fi block, and there has been some pretty awesome and some definitely not-awesome stuff in them over the last three months. An example of the awesome stuff I got was a 45 record of two of the tracks from the soundtrack from Aliens. I also got a model (that you had to put together with glue and stuff) of the robot from lost in space. An example of the definitely not-awesome stuff I got was a little megablocks Terminator Genisys figure and some shitty brown-colored blocks to stand him on. Haven't opened it and haven't found a little kid to give it to. The t-shirts in them are alright, because I think they're actually owned by a company that makes t-shirts as their main source of business. I haven't found one that I've particularly fallen in love with though. My next one should hopefully come tomorrow so I can post pictures if you guys were interested.
I had loot crate for two months and cancelled. The swag in them is very cheaply made and, honestly, only rarely worth the cost of the crate.
