Hi, all. I have a question that has been lingering for a long time and it is now time for it to be answered with the help of facepunch. I have a Gateway FX 4710-UB003A. The motherboard currently has 6GB of DDR2 (5300) RAM. I was wondering if i could put DDR2 (6400) RAM into my computer and give it a slight performance increase. Is 6400 compatible with my motherboard? I've looked and looked on Google but I cannot find the answer. Maybe someone here can help me? EDIT: crap, is this the wrong section? sorry... :frown:
Nope, It's not.... EDIT: Well, at least I can't find anything that say's it is.... It's better to be safe than sorry... :effort:
If you put DDR2 800 into it and the mobo doesn't support faster than DDR2 667, it'll downclock. Hell, if you mix the DDR2 800 and DDR2 667, it'll all downclock to 667.
