To me it was more LINEAR GAME PLAY LINEAR GAME PLAY. In guerrilla, you could travel across a ton of places whenever you wanted, but in this game its go here no exploring allowed. Also the multiplayer is FIGHTING BUGS.
I agree with the review in the fact, if you isolate it from guerrilla, it is an amazing game but when compared to guerrilla, it is a step in the wrong direction.
The gameplay was kind of fun while it lasted (that is to say, not for long) but my fucking god the story was a joke. Aliens have no place in Red Faction, let alone martians. Seriously, martians were cool in the 1800's for Christ's sake. I especially hated how they went back and managed to fuck up the first games story too by [sp]saying that Capek got all his nanotech by researching the aliens[/sp].

To be fair Red Faction 1 and 2 were both linear FPS games but they were both good. At least they were both good in my opinion.
I was thinking about getting this, but if it really is as linear as RPS makes it out to be...
I loved how Guerilla was basically GTA on mars, with destructible buildings.

For fuck's sake people. Linear =/= Bad game
If you're comparing this to Armageddon then I suppose it would be a bit of a letdown, but it still looks like a worthwhile purchase, though I think I'll wait until the price drops a bit.
I'm just fine with games being linear. Just because a game is linear doesn't mean the gameplay is shit.
I'm still waiting for the games price to drop though. If we were in a drought of games this year I'd buy it day one, but there's just too many games coming out this year to get.
do i see female?
fucking guerrilla please somebody play multiplayer on it with me like holy fuck nobody plays this hideously amazing game shit fucking empty servers man fuck
I played this without knowing what it really was like and I spent half of the game going "so when am I gonna get to the freeroam part?" only to later find out they took the linear path this time. It's still not really bad though but I'd have preferred freeroam after playing Guerilla.
Open world shooters usually suffer from things like repetitiveness but it still beats the hell out of the totally linear route.
Had some really nice features, like some of the weapons and the new reconstruction, but sadly, all the time i kept thinking "Man this would have been so awesome in Guerilla"
I liked Guerilla better..
With all of the games these days with the dumb unnecessary freeroam, this is actually one game that should have been freeroam.

Yeah, and even the reconstructor is in Guerrilla MP.
I loved the magnet gun in the demo. This guy hit the mark I think. The actual gameplay was fairly standard for Red faction, "move here, kill there, reach exit, wreck shit in mech". But the magnet gun, oh boy that thing is fun. I spent 5 minutes wrecking an entire cavern of sewage pipes. Just to find I had broken I important bridge I needed to cross. Repair saves the day!
Yep, I used the magnet gun almost exclusively the entire game. It's too bad that with all these new gameplay innovations (portable nano forge, level up system, magnet gun) they had to go and screw up the actual game mechanics.

If someone could port the Guerrilla campaign into the Armageddon engine I would have to play the game naked to avoid ruining my pants.
I miss the original GeoMod engine, where you could, you know, blow the entire map up if you had enough explosives.

Yes sir.
When I heard Armageddon was announced it was going to be in a cave, I was going "hot damn there's definitely going to be terrain destruction this time! What good is putting it in a cave without that?"
Turns out Volition can go fuck themselves. The building destruction is cool and all, but we haven't actually had a good terrain destruction game since the original Red Faction.
So the game is fine ? I was afraid about it
Things like this make me wonder why game developers STOPPED using things like terrain destruction/deformation. IIRC, there was terrain deformation in battlefield 2, and now I hear that you could destroy terrain in Red Faction 1? It's an awesome game mechanic, IMO, it makes no sense why games that go "OMG DESTRUCTION PHYSICS WOOOOOO" don't use it.

there's also terrain deformation in Far Cry
