so, i've went and overclocked my GTX 260 stock to the same clocks as the XFX black edition. it's a pretty hefty overclock so i'm keeping my fan at 80% speed.
i've clocked it from:
Core: 576
Shader: 1242
Memory: 999
to the XFX black editions clocks
Core: 666
Shader: 1403
Memory: 1202
what i need to know, preferably from others who had the gall to do this, is:
can this run stably on a stock card with stock cooling?
what fanspeed should i use (rivatuner)?
any other great advice would be welcome.
i'm fairly new to overclocking, i've no grasp of what's idiotic and what's not. i raped my old laptop with a 9500m GT overclocking it very close to the edge of insanity. only by mercy of god was it kept stable. i still decided to do this since it was proven stable by the fact that it's being sold like this.
what do you think?
Well, first off, you need to find out what temps you're idling at and when under load. I'd kick back the fan to maybe 50%, just to see what sort of temps you get, then gradually increase it til you find a point that you're happy at. I don't know about your card, but on my 5850 if I put the fan up that high it sounds like a plane crashing into a mountain filled with screaming babies.
idling at 45-50 at 40% fanspeed. under load it's not much more than 60 degrees. what bugs me is that fallout 3 fails on me if i clock it any higher. but all my other games accept another 15% overclock from the clocks above. is that the card or the game then?
any idea how i can set it to use 65% ONLY when under load?
