Hello FPers and German FPers, I'm a Syrian guy who's gonna migrate to Germany because living in Syria isn't very possible at the time, although I currently live in Turkey but they are hating on Syrians and asking for them to get out, so yeah. I'm gonna learn German there and hopefully stay there for a while. So I would appreciate every piece of info I can acquire, thank you in advance.
Well, the syrian and turk community is huge, probably the biggest one here. The cities and people themselves are probably what youre expecting, except younger people are cool and not cold or unfriendly (well most of them). You might get some hate for being from Syria or Turkey or just simply an Ausländer, Ive seen it on a couple of occasions, but it doesnt happen that often. Youll be fine as long as you get the language and try to integrate a bit into the community

Aside from that, do you already know where you will be living or something?
If you're going to a city, expect it to be clean and comparatively very safe. Public transport is very easy to access and use also in my expereince. As the previous poster said, it would help to know where in Germany you are going. I lived in Munich for 9 years but I couldn't tell you much about anywhere else in Germany.

The guy got fed up because of some misunderstanding and just walked away shouting shit about foreigners or something, that the guy couldnt speak german even though he did speak german to me when he attended me. But in general I dont recall of any other real incident from younger people. Not yet
Drink Club-Mate, it's kind of a entry-test they will force on you. If you don't make it through one bottle it's quite hard to make a living there.
Yeah, I see what you mean now. That's a tough case because sometimes, you might actually stumble across a foreign worker at McDonalds or burger king that is barely able to speak German, which happens more often the bigger the town is you're in. Sadly a not so small portion of foreign people, and funnily enough just turks most of the time, tend to refuse to integrate properly. They just stay among their people, talking their language and try to take those low-paid easy jobs in fastfood-shacks. Still, not a reason to stirr up trouble just because their German isn't perfect.
[editline]4th August 2014[/editline] The fuck is Club-Mate? :v:
apperantly by german law you're offically uncool now
Never seen it in my whole life, heh. But well, I never saw anyone drinking it either.
i am seriously doubting your germanness
Well, I asked a friend of mine, he said that it's mostly hipsters who drink that, which would explain alot. However, I will take it even to the next level: I do not enjoy beer.

out of all the places in europe I've visited, Germany was the most friendly to foreigners.
man why are we taking advice from you then? Oh maybe you're one of those "Ausländer" or something....
Mods help the Germans tryna be racist on me.
where you will be living or something?
Sorry for the late reply, but we're going to Dusseldorf, any info about it?
Oh wow, that's not too far from where I live. I've been there just once though and don't have much info about Düsseldorf in particular, but Dortmund's near there aswell and if you feel the need to go shopping, Dortmund's your place. They got a huge shopping center there. Anyways, I don't think you will encounter many unfriendly peeps there. Düsseldorf belongs to NRW, which is in my opinion one of the best federal states to live in. The city's won't look shabby, as they're all somewhat wealthy and there's barely any dialect in the German spoken, so if you're learning German in school or something, this is what you will be learning aswell.
you're welcome to come to lebanon if you want to live in a syrian-friendly but shitty country

Germans.
http://asecular.com/~scott/misc/toilet.htm
haha i remember my grandma in baden württemberg had this kind of toilet where 1 day i made such a big shit that the water couldn't flush it from the shelf down to the water hole
I wish we had one of those too, would've prevent the water from splashing against my butt. Most of those toilets have a much larger water hole though, at least from what I've seen.
You shouldn't expect to learn German there; it might be advantageous to know a few terms. Ich bin %name%=I am %name% Wie geht's?(Pronounced Vie-Gets)=How are you? Gut, danke=Fine, thank you. Hallo=Hello(in an informal setting, like 'Hey!') Wo ist der kleine Affe, der am Bahnhof, die die Erdnüsse, Sirup und Milch verkauft wurde?=Where is the little monkey at the train station who was selling the peanuts, syrup, and milk? That should be a little helpful. OH, and perhaps one of the most important thing, beer is bier. Have fun!
When you get to Germany, make sure you do this: Mention the war to the point of being obnoxious. DON'T LET THEM FORGET. THEY CAN NEVER FORGET THAT WE NEVER FORGET.
Expect the unexpected.

"How did we start it?!" "You invaded Poland!" Hah, I miss that show.
