• Opinions on the Alienware M11x?

Got an Acer Aspire One from Target a few months ago for $150 (Cheap because it was a "display" model. And the display was behind glass...). Serves its purpose; internet browsing, computer work at school, uploading class notes to my calculator for use on tests, etc. It can even (barely) run Torchlight. But this semester my classes are fairly spread out, and every Monday and Wednesday I twiddle my thumbs in the cafeteria for three hours, and for two and a half on Tuesday and Thursday. During this time, while doing remedial tasks on my Acer, I start to ponder how expensive more powerful laptop alternatives could be. And I stumble upon the Alienware M11x. http://youtube.com/watch?v=L2eHef6d_wU Intel C2D 1.3GHz (Hopefully it can be OCed) Up to 8GB DDR3 RAM Nvidia GT335 1GB Up to 500GB HDD And a bunch of extra goodies all for around $800, in a netbook form factor. They even engrave your name on the bottom. I've been looking around, and I haven't seen any other laptops that perform so well for so little, let alone a netbook. Its come down to this, or wait for Nvidia's GT400 line to release and see how much those cost. Opinions? God damn, I am so getting this Laptop. [editline]06:48PM[/editline] I don't give a damn about standards, this time it's Alienware. [editline]06:48PM[/editline] I thought I was above this sort of thing, but no. [editline]06:49PM[/editline] It's probably the best Netbook around, and one of the best laptop as well, but I wonder if you can get it customized with one of the portable i7's. [editline]06:51PM[/editline] WHAT THE FUCK NO DISC DRIVE FUCK THIS. caps.
the specs you posted aren't $800 specs... [editline]11:52PM[/editline] there are two threads about it actually. here is mine, I can't be bothered to find the other. http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=875978
All those specs add up to over $1200. On a netbook. And it still looks tacky as shit with the pulsing logo and the whole design. [editline]07:55AM[/editline] My bad. It's at least $1400 for those specs.
I would have got it but it's a lot more in the UK :( Might wait out for the ION2 or just get a normal laptop. They pretty much just got the dollar sign and swapped it for a pound sign.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220602 Lighter http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220634 Better Performance.
you wont be able to OC the CPU
If I end up having some spare cash (lol, never) I would consider getting one.
A 1.3 ghz core 2 seems very slow for a gaming netbook.
A 1.3 ghz core 2 seems very slow for a gaming netbook.
its a netbook, what do you expect without it overheating from crippled airflow
I would possibly consider getting the 800 dollar version, but i don't see the point tbh. You can get a new netbook for 200-300 bucks and it will run just as good (Only downside is no graphics card)
its a netbook, what do you expect without it overheating from crippled airflow
I know it's limited, but that seems very slow for gaming. Then again... If I knew the exact model of the CPU I could look up benchmarks. [editline]07:41PM[/editline] Plus according to a previous thread it has a pentium dual core, which most of us know is a low end core 2 duo.
Full hands on review of the m11x. Looks like it can be OCed, and rather easily. In the review, it went from 1.3GHz to 1.6 with only a 1c increase in heat.
