i seriously don't know which one to choose. I was originally gonna buy the e8400 and a new cooler and heatsink and oc it, but now i just don't know. can somebody tell me the pros and cons of dual core and quad core processors? i really need help
Just go with a quad-core unless you're going for a low-end build.
Tricores ftw.
What are the full specs of what you're thinking of getting?
Tricores ftw.
:froggonk: Enjoy your faulty quadcore OP: Quad cores are coming more and more popular and mainstream, it is a wise move to go with a quadcore unless all you do is browse the web
What are the full specs of what you're thinking of getting?
a gtx 260 vista 64 bit 4 gb pc6400 ram 650 watt psu standard dvd burner antec 900 500 gb hdd and this mobohttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128371
Get a Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem. I think its kinda pointless buying a Kentsfield now compared to the i7's which would be much more future-proof. You don't really upgrade your processor really as much as your GPU since by the time im gonna upgrade my CPU I would have to buy another mobo and that would be in maybe 1-2 years. What's your budget?
it fully depends on your budget and what you plan to do
a gtx 260 vista 64 bit 4 gb pc6400 ram 650 watt psu standard dvd burner antec 900 500 gb hdd and this mobohttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128371
Definitely quad.
720x3 > E8400
i want it to be less than 900, i got it to be exactly 850 with all the rebates and shit without vista [editline]03:36AM[/editline] and id only be playing cod: waw, orange box, left 4 dead, garrys mod, age of empires 3, and roller coaster tycoon, because those are the only games i play
then you really don't need a quad core for those games, games that run on quad cores WONDERFULLY are like GTA IV and stuff.
i want it to be less than 900, actually 850 without vista [editline]03:36AM[/editline] and id only be playing cod: waw, orange box, left 4 dead, garrys mod, age of empires 3, and roller coaster tycoon, because those are the only games i play
Then get a dual core.
here is the conclusion Want to host a server? get a quadcore want to play games? get a dual core DO NOT get a quadcore if your not gonna host a server thats just extra heat you dont need.
720 x3 [editline]03:42AM[/editline]
here is the conclusion Want to host a server? get a quadcore want to play games? get a dual core DO NOT get a quadcore if your not gonna host a server thats just extra heat you dont need.
why quad cores are cheap they outperform most dual cores in games and do most other stuff better
ive never had an amd processor before. Why are almst the same processors made by intel so much more money? are intels better than amd? ive gone with intel because ive always owned an intel fuck now its brands....
amd is cheaper than intel the 720 X3 is about 119 and the E8400 is about 180, and the 720 outperforms it just go performance per dollar
damn thanks! i know have it down to 800!

get this mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128392 and this ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231200 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131381 that mobo and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231166 ram
what about this i found this combo deal:http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.211695 and this ram :http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145241
:froggonk: Enjoy your faulty quadcore OP: Quad cores are coming more and more popular and mainstream, it is a wise move to go with a quadcore unless all you do is browse the web
That's like saying the GT version of any Nvidia card is just a broken version of the GTX. Although it's true, it doesn't mean that it's a perfectly sensible solution. I run a dual core personally, and i find it will handle anything i throw at it.
what about this i found this combo deal:http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.211695 and this ram :http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145241
you'll need ddr3 ram for that mobo can't believe I didn't see that
but it says this in specifications:Memory Number of Memory Slots 4×240pin Memory Standard DDR2 1066 Maximum Memory Supported 16GB Channel Supported Dual Channel
oops [editline]04:34AM[/editline] yeah but it needs to be clocked at 1066
then you really don't need a quad core for those games, games that run on quad cores WONDERFULLY are like GTA IV and stuff.
GTA iv runs wonderfully with a dual? HAHAA!
GTA iv runs wonderfully with a dual? HAHAA!
GTAIV runs wonderfully on an i7 975? HAHAA [editline]09:14AM[/editline] tl;dr GTAIV is a messy nightmare
